Amazon and Kindle Big Winners on Cyber Monday

Cyber Monday came and went, and industry experts say sales rose 14% compares to Cyber Monday 2008.  Many retailers saw traffic to their websites increase by about 33%

Sites like American Eagle, Overstock.com, Walmart, and Target said sales were strong all day long.

But a clear winner appears to be Amazon.com.  Amazon did a great job promoting their deep discounted items, and third party sellers on Amazon also reported brisk sales.

The "best-selling item across all of Amazon's product categories on Monday" was the Kindle e-book reader.  The Kindle had its best month ever in November, and sales are expected to be strong throughout December.  At $259, the Kindle competes with Sony's Reader, and Barnes & Noble's yet to be released Nook.  I tend to think many customers were holding off purchasing an e-book reader until the reports of shipping delays involving the Nook were let out.  This caused many people to order a Kindle by default.  Amazon still refuses to disclose how many Kindle units have been sold.

Some people even think supplies will start running low on new Kindles, so you may want to get your order in soon.
