John Smoltz Could be Twin's New Closer

Joe Nathan is injured, the Twins need a closer and John Smoltz is available.

Could be a perfect match.

An article in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution thinks so too.

Smoltz is 42, and is an unsigned free agent living in Atlanta.  Smoltz has said he wants to pitch in 2010, which would be his 22nd season.

Smoltz is an accomplished starter and closer with Hall of Fame credentials. He has a lifetime record of 213-155, largely as a Braves starter. But, he also has racked up 154 saves and struck out more than 3,000 hitters.

The Twins are opening a new ballpark, and with a reliable closer should win the AL Central this year.  This seems like a good spot for Smoltz.
