Atlanta's Georgia State University has said it will add women's sand volleyball to it's list of scholarship sports.

Sand volleyball is considered to be an NCAA emerging sport.  Fifteen teams currently play the sport, according to the American Volleyball Coaches Association website, with several more considering it for 2011-12 season.  Some of the schools that offer the sport include Florida State, College of Charleston, Jacksonville, North Florida, UAB, Tulane, Mercer, Florida Atlantic and Florida International. Other schools are on the West Coast.

Georgia State recently has begun playing football, so they must add some additional women's sports into the mix.  Not sure where they will be playing the matches as Georgia State is an urban campus in Downtown Atlanta.  Georgia State is also the only team in the Colonial Athletic Conference that will field a sand volleyabll team, so matches will all be non-conference.

The team will have four scholarships that can be divided among the 15 or so players on the team.  There also remains the possibility that some of the women currently on the indoor volleyball team may also be playing in the sand.
