50 Days Adrift and Amazingly Rescued at Sea

How long before they make a movie of this?  Three teenage boys from the Tokelau Islands, a New Zealand-administered territory in the South Pacific, had been given up for dead after an unsuccessful search. But, a tuna fishing boat picked them up near Fiji and is taking them to hospital for treatment for severe sunburn, 50 days after they were lost.

The boys survived on coconuts, water they trapped on a tarpaulin and a seabird they managed to catch.

Samu Perez and Filo Filo, both 15, and Edward Nasau, 14 - had gone missing from Atafu atoll in a small aluminium boat after an annual sporting event on 5 October.

They were presumed to have died after unsuccessful searches by the New Zealand air force.

The boys were then spotted north-east of Fiji on Wednesday afternoon by a member of the tuna boat's crew.

"We drew up next to them, and we asked if they needed any help and their reply was a very ecstatic 'yes'," the tuna vessel's first mate, Tai Fredricsen, told the BBC.

"We immediately deployed our rescue craft and got them straight on board and administered basic first aid."

The boys had a small supply of coconuts on their boat, but that it had run out after two days.  They also said that two weeks prior to the rescue, they were able to catch a sea bird which was very lucky for them.

Friday's College Football Plays of the Day

Alabama and Oregon

Some good games to watch while you think about which Thanksgiving leftovers to eat on Black Friday.

No time to hit the malls with these games.

Auburn at Alabama.  The Tide is playing for pride at this point.  Auburn is playing for a spot in the BCS.  Alabama is favored by 4 and I think they will cover.  The Tide are 7-1 in their last eight games ATS as a home favorite.  Couple that with Auburn being 1-5 ATS in their last six road games as a dog.  I like Bama to win by 9-10 points.  Roll Tide!

Arizona at Oregon.  Two ranked teams here, but playing at Oregon makes all difference in the world.  Oregon is favored by 19, but there are 4-0-1 ATS in their last five home games.  Oregon will be clicking and they will open up the offense to win by more than three touchdowns.  The Quack Attack is back!

Maybe a bonus Friday night pick at some point on Friday.  Hint:  Boise St.

Thanksgiving Football Plays of the Day

A trio of NFL games to watch on Thanksgiving Day and some good plays. Here are my picks and there are no turkeys in the bunch.

Game 1: New England at Detroit. The Patriots are giving the Lions 7 points. In past years, this would be a no-brainer, you would take the Lions because they always played well on Turkey Day. Don't make that mistake this year. The Pats are the play, they have too much on the line to not blitz the Lions. Brady will be fine. Take the Pats big.

Game 2: New Orleans at Dallas. This is the third game of the Jason Garrett era in Dallas, and it will be his toughest test. Dallas is getting 4 points at home, and that should be enough. I see the Saints winning by a last second field goal. Dallas will cover.

Game 3: Cincinnati at New York Jets. What is going on in Cincinnati? I don't know, and it's starting to implode. The Jets are favored by 9. They play close games, but this won't be one of them The only question is whether Rex Ryan will eat before or after this night game. I guess he will eat before and after. A big feast in the Ryan household. Take the Jets in a blowout.
