Limpert Tech for 6/30/18 on ALT 105.7 and iHeartRadio - Drones and InterDrone

Rick is at the InterDrone Show in Las Vegas this week. The topic of course, is everything drones!

Industry figures show that the global commercial drone market is projected to reach 7 trillion won ($6.2 billion) in 2025 amid growing demand in diverse sectors such as construction and agriculture as well as infrastructure management such as solar and wind power facility management, forestry disease and insect pest and forest fire monitoring, and long-distance emergency items transportation. The market is expected to expand further amid growing demand for commercial drones in the logistics sector in the United States and China.

What did he see and hear?

Have a listen to Rick and Sully

1.   Grand Opening Keynote featuring FAA Administrator, Dan Elwell

How much should the FAA be monitoring and regulating the drone industry? Safety is a major concern.
During his speech, Elwell reiterated that “the FAA is open for business.”
“Drones are going to do for aviation, what the internet did for information.”

2. Skysense Demonstrate Automated Drone Charging at Interdrone

Unique charging solution from this startup

3. Drone Insurance

AirMap, the world's leading airspace management platform for drones, and DroneInsurance.com, a digital drone insurance portal, are announcing a collaboration that will allow U.S.-based1 drone operators to purchase insurance from DroneInsurance.com within the AirMap for Drones mobile app. The app is available today and can be downloaded from the App Store and Google Play.

The integrated ability to purchase insurance is made possible through REIN's recently launched digital portal DroneInsurance.com, which aims to provide a smart and paperless drone insurance experience that offers dynamic policy options to address the unique risks, pain points and insurance needs of commercial drone operators. By providing the option to add insurance coverage as an easy, seamless part of AirMap's pre-flight planning workflow through the AirMap for Drones iOS and Android mobile app, AirMap is improving the daily flying experience for drone operators.

4. News from Parrot

eBee X: the fixed-wing drone that allows operators to map without limits

The senseFly eBee X fixed-wing drone is designed to boost the quality, efficiency and safety of geospatial professionals’ data collection. This enterprise-grade solution offers a camera to suit every job, the accuracy and coverage capabilities to meet the requirements of even the most demanding projects and is durable enough to work virtually every site.

MULTI-PURPOSE
One tool, multiple cameras, for every job

The eBee X includes a range of revolutionary new camera options to suit every mapping job—from land surveying and topographic mapping to urban planning, crop mapping, thermal mapping, environmental monitoring and many more. These cameras include:
The senseFly S.O.D.A. 3D: a unique drone photogrammetry camera with a one-inch sensor, which changes orientation during flight to capture three images (two oblique, one nadir) every time, instead of just one, for a much wider field of view. The result is stunning digital 3D reconstructions in vertically-focused environments—such as urban areas, open pit mines and coastlines—over larger areas than quadcopter drones can achieve. senseFly S.O.D.A. 3D is optimised for quick, robust image processing with Pix4Dmapper software.
The senseFly Aeria X: a compact drone photogrammetry camera with APS-C sensor. This rugged innovation offers an ideal blend of size, weight and DSLR-like image quality. Thanks in part to its built-in Smart Exposure technology, it provides outstanding image detail and clarity, in virtually all light conditions, allowing operators to map for more hours per day than ever before.
The senseFly Duet T: a dual-camera thermal mapping rig, which lets mapping professionals create geo-accurate thermal maps and digital surface models quickly and easily. The Duet T includes both a high-resolution (640 x 512 px) thermal infrared camera and a senseFly S.O.D.A. RGB camera with one-inch sensor. Both image sources can be accessed as required, while the rig’s built-in Camera Position Synchronisation feature works in sync with Pix4Dmapper photogrammetry software (optional) to simplify the map reconstruction process.

The eBee X is also compatible with the Parrot Sequoia+ multispectral camera for agriculture, the senseFly S.O.D.A. drone photogrammetry camera and senseFly Corridor for simple linear mapping.
Parrot, the leading European drone group, offers business solutions spanning drones, software, sensors and services, mainly focusing on 3 major verticals:
Agriculture
3D mapping, surveying and inspection
Public safety

Founded in 1994 by Henri Seydoux, the Parrot Group designs and engineers its products in Europe, mainly in France and Switzerland. Headquartered in Paris, Parrot has been listed since 2006 on Euronext Paris (FR0004038263 - PARRO). For more information: www.parrot.com

5. Doosan showcases drone fuel cell powerpack in Las Vegas

The company said it is easy to refill fuel of its newly developed powerpack by simply replacing a detachable hydrogen container in the powerpack with a new one. A single charge of the hydrogen container also keeps drones flying for two hours, which is significantly longer than 20 to 30 minutes powered by existing drone batteries.

Limpert Tech "SullyCast" on ALT 105.7 and iHeartRadio - Getting 'Tech Ready' for Football Season

Rick and Sully have been anticipating the start of football season.

Camps are open and the pre-season games have started in the NFL.

The Super Bowl is even in Atlanta this year!

College student-athletes are reporting and practices are ongoing.

What's new in tech this football season, on the field and off?

Have a listen:

1.  The HALO Shirt - may reduce concussions
About $100  - Available in October

Advanced Exoskeletal Systems (AEXOS) is now offering a new technology called HALO that promises to reduce whiplash when you’re playing a high-impact game like football. The technology, which the brothers started developing in 2015, has been endorsed by Safe 4 Sports, an organization that advocates for injury prevention among athletes.

The HALO is, at first blush, a compression shirt that you can wear under your uniform. But it comes with an “impact responsive collar” that sits against the back of your neck to fortify your vertebrae. A silicone-based postural support system is built into the shirt to safeguard major muscle groups along your upper body.

2. GPS Technology on the football field

How about a look into how much kids are running in games versus practice to kind of cater towards conditioning and prepare them for the season.

Some teams are partnered up with Sports Performance Track to utilize GPS player tracker technology to capture crucial practice and game information on speed, endurance, intensity and individual athletic exertion.
This is info teams have never has before.

3. Hudl
www.hudl.com

Hudl is software offers tools to edit and share film for coaches, and the ability for players to make recruitment videos for colleges. According to its website, Hudl has more than 160,000 active teams and 4.3 million unique visitors from around the world, including teams in North America, South America, Asia, Africa and Europe.
For any football coach, Hudl is a hub and just part of the everyday experience.

4. Your Call Football - for fans
www.cantina.co

Your Call Football—known as YCF— combines entertainment, sports innovation, and advanced technology to put fans at the center of live sporting events by letting them control the action on the field. For the first time, fans can impact the game by voting on plays. They can then see how their votes affect the game in real-time.
It's gamifying the football we watch on TV. Now there is a "game within the game."

5. LG C8: The best TV for watching sports
www.lg.com

$2000-3000 depending on screen size
The C8 has excellent motion handling due to its fast response time and its ability to clear up blur. The gray uniformity is very good, and the dirty screen effect is not an issue when watching sports. The image remains accurate when viewed from the side, and it's suitable for large rooms unlike similarly premium models like the Samsung Q9FN. The picture quality is great due to the perfect blacks and wide color gamut.

6. NFL Mobile App  $99.00 for the entire year $24.99/quarter

The app lets you follow specific teams and news for only that team. It's a little clunky, but nothing too bad. This is also the home of NFL's Game Pass streaming service. It costs $99.99 per year or $24.99 per quarter of a year. You can watch every non-blackout football game. That means you can't watch home team games, but you can watch anything else. There are other options for live streaming, but the content and news is fairly top notch.

Limpert Tech "SullyCast" on ALT 105.7 and iHeartRadio - Community Ride-Share Scooters and Bikes

Community-share scooters, bikes and transports are all the rage!

Rick and Sully seem to mention them every week. But this week, that is the focus and they go more in depth on what you may soon find as "short hop" options on your streets or neighborhoods.

Have a listen to see how you can use these services and how the trend is growing.

1.  Bird
www.bird.co

The Bird system of dockless, electric, lightweight scooters is taking off in Atlanta as a means of travel that link commuters between transit and home—or to anywhere too far to walk, or too close to drive, to. It’s the California-based company’s first foray into the Southeast.

Initially, Atlantans have found Birds in Midtown, Tech Square, downtown, and south of Interstate 20 in West End, but it's speading even more than that as we are now in Summer.

Taking Bird “vehicles” is an app-based endeavor that costs $1 to start each ride, then 15 cents per minute afterwards.

Bird employees begin tracking them down, charging, and storing them overnight at 8 p.m. The scooters are returned to “nests” at 7 a.m. the following day.

Typically, three Birds roost at each nest. Some property owners agree to host more more, however.
Helmets (like drivers licenses) are required by law and are provided by Bird upon request. Each scooter’s scootin’ capabilities are capped at 15 mph, and they’ll fly about 15 miles per charge. Scooting about ATL for anyone under 18 years old is a no-no.

The company has pledged to remit $1 per scooter, per day, to city governments to help build permanent bike lanes, maintain infrastructure, and promote safety. Per Bird’s estimation, 40 percent of U.S. car trips are less than two miles long.

2.  Muving
www.muvingusa.com

Muving, an electric scooter company based in Spain, launched 75 scooters in Midtown around June 15. Riders can reserve and use a scooter through the Muving app but must have a drivers license and be at least 18 years old. The scooters can travel up to 45 miles and can reach speeds of 30 MPH.

The Metro Atlanta Chamber helped bring the company to the City of Atlanta, which has been supportive of the project. While the city has not passed any requirements yet dealing with shareable “dockless mobility devices,” they have drafted an ordinance, which Muving is working to follow. Unlike the Bird electric scooters that have taken over the city, Muving’s bikes cannot simply be parked on the street.
Rides cost 35 cents per minute or 15 cents per minute when the scooter is in standby mode. The scooters are available from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, but if they are well received, they could end up running 24/7.

3. Relay Bike Share
www.relaybikeshare.com

Relay Bike Share has grown to include more than 500 bikes at 60-plus stations spanning from West End to Buckhead’s PATH 400.
The rentable sky-blue bikes have become ubiquitous around Atlanta. Try one!

4. Ofo Dockless Bikes
www.ofo.com

Ofo, founded in China in 2014, secured a business license with the city and launched in Midtown, Little Five Points, Inman Park and the Old Fourth Ward last Wednesday.

Company representatives said pricing will be $1 to start a ride and an additional $1 for every half hour ridden. Ofo will also be testing out a new drop-off model in Atlanta where the company is partnering with local businesses. Users will be required to start a trip and end a trip on the private property of one of those designated businesses.

5.  Uber and Lyft not far behind

Ride-hailing company Uber announced an agreement to acquire JUMP Bikes, “an electronic, dockless bike-sharing service,” giving Uber access to its 12,000 GPS-enabled bikes in 40 cities across six countries.
Lyft - has recently bought one of the one of the biggest bike-sharing companies in the US - Motivate
Motivate accounts for about 80 percent of bike-share trips in the US, also operates networks in Chicago; Boston; Washington, DC; Portland, Oregon; Columbus; and Minneapolis.

6. Product to get... to be safe...  for all these bikes and scooters... Morpher Folding Helmet
It folds as you squash it in from both sides – the Morpher packs down far smaller, making it a better option for those who really want to save on space in their bag. Make sure you opt for the version of the Morpher that meets your local safety standards if you order online. a little over $100, buy on morpherhelmet.com
