Limpert Tech "SullyCast" on Radio 105.7 - Halloween Tech Safety Tips

While Halloween is an exciting time for kids, it can be a nerve-racking time for parents, with safety being their top priority. Gone are the days of turning your children loose in the neighborhood to go door-to-door without a safety plan in place.

Some tech safety tips for Halloween

Have a listen:

1.  Don't Let Kids Go Alone and Carry Flashlights

Children under the age of 12 should never be turned loose to go door-to-door without adult supervision.  It’s always best to go out in groups and stay in the neighborhoods you are most familiar with using the sidewalk and remaining on well lit streets as you navigate the neighborhood.
Kids should carry flashlights with fresh batteries or glow sticks so they are visible to cars and motorcycles.  Include reflector tape on the bottoms of shoes for added protection.

2.  RedPanicButton.com

Are you in distress? Do you feel threatened? Don’t panic!
Just push THE RED PANIC BUTTON!

The app will immediately send an SMS and an E-MAIL containing your GPS coordinates in a Google Maps link to all your emergency contacts! Get out of trouble, find your child or help others with only ONE button push on your phone screensaver!

3.  If You Need to Check Out Your Neighbors

Make sure you know the neighborhood and who lives there. You can do a quick search on BeenVerified.com to see if your new neighbors have any skeletons in their closet.

The most popular times to trick-or-treat are 5:30-9:30pm. There is safety in numbers, so it is best to stick to these times when canvasing the neighborhood.

4.  Be Mindful of Dogs and Carry Dog Treats to Make 4-legged Friends

- Dogs don't like Halloween and Halloween Costumes.

Beware of dogs you don’t know and advise kids not to pet dogs you meet along the trick-or-treat route. Dogs can be nervous around little kids, especially ones dressed like ghouls and goblins. Have someone in your group carry dog treats to make friends.

5.  Dcorate your Kids’ Costumes and Candy Bags with Reflective Tape

One type is

3M Scotchlite Reflective Tape, Silver, 1-Inch by 36-Inch

You should decorate your kids’ costumes and candy bags with reflective tape to make them more visible on the dark streets.

Digital eye strain is the physical discomfort felt after two or more hours in front of a digital screen and is associated with the close to mid-range distance of digital screens, including desktop and laptop computers, tablets, e-readers and smartphones.

Prolonged periods of use appear to exacerbate symptoms of eye strain as 96 percent of Americans who experience digital eye strain spend two or more hours each day using devices. A combination of factors foster the onset of digital eye strain, including the proximity of the screen, the frequency and duration of use and the degree of exposure to high-energy visible (HEV) or blue light emitted by video screens.

Limpert Tech "SullyCast" on Radio 105.7 - Turner Field and Technology

Turner Field will close as we know it this weekend. But is will live on through repurposing with Georgia State taking over.

When the ballpark lights are shut off for good on the night of Oct. 2, the team will leave behind not only a stadium filled with memories of National League championships, but also a 50-year legacy that started just across the street from Turner Field. After all, Mechanicsville has been — for better or worse — the home to the Braves since their relocation from Milwaukee.

The team now moves to Cobb County.

Rick and Sully look at some tech advances and features of Turner Field

1.    The Olympic Legacy

Originally built as Centennial Olympic Stadium in 1996 to serve as the centerpiece of the 1996 Summer Olympics, the stadium was converted into a baseball park to serve as the new home of the team. The Braves moved less than one block from Atlanta–Fulton County Stadium, which served as their home ballpark from 1966 to 1996 (30 years). The stadium was a bit ahead of its time in that it was converted to a ballpark from the Olympic Stadium. Immediately after the 1996 Summer Paralympics, which followed the Olympics, much of the north end of the stadium was removed in order to convert it to its permanent use as a 49,000-seat baseball park.

2.  Public Transportation and Access

MARTA access (well, plus shuttle) to the games and the ability to bring in food from home — or Publix, because nothing says baseball like a sub from Publix or KFC.

3. Wi-Fi Pioneers

Thanks to AT&T, Turner Field was one of the first stadiums in any sport to offer free Wi-Fi to fans throughout the stadium. There was also an early Turner Field app that helped fans navigate the stadium.

4.  One of the first "Fan Plazas"

Fan Plaza: Fan Plaza (sometimes called Grand Entry Plaza) serves as the primary entrance and exit to the park, and is the hub of pregame and postgame activity at Turner Field. The Plaza is located directly behind centerfield and the jumbotron. The area features the Majestic Clubhouse Store, as well as multiple dining options and drink stands, and the Taco Mac Family Zone (a children's interactive area, which replaced Cartoon Network's "Tooner Field" in 2012). The radio pregame and postgame show broadcast location is also located on the Plaza. Prior to select home games, live music is performed in this area.

5. Turner Field has been the filming locations for movies:

"Flight"
"The Change Up"
"Trouble With the Curve"

Turner Field Facts:
-Seating capacity
    85,000 (1996 Olympics)
    50,528 (1997)
    49,714 (1998–2000)
    50,096 (2001–2007)
    49,743 (2008–2010)
    49,586 (2011–present)
-400 Feet to straight-away centerfield

- The first regular season game played at Turner Field was on April 4, 1997 against the Chicago Cubs. The Braves were losing 4–3 in the eighth inning when Chipper Jones drove in the tying run. A Michael Tucker single gave the Braves the lead as they won their first regular season game at Turner Field 5–4.

First Hit: Chipper Jones
First Home Run - Michael Tucker

- The longest game by time, and in Braves history, was played on July 26–27, 2011 between the Braves and the Pittsburgh Pirates. The game lasted 6 hours and 39 minutes with the Braves winning controversially 4–3 in 19 innings.

Limpert Tech "SullyCast" on Radio 105.7 - New iPhone 7

The new iPhone 7 hits shelves this week. Big changes and advances for this new edition of the iPhone.  Should you spend the $649 and get one?

Rick and Sully take a look!  Have a listen:

Though the product's new features are usually the highlight of iPhone arrivals, it's what's absent that is making waves: the removal of the headphone jack. Observers of Apple say the company is banking on the expanding use of wireless technology, with the hopes of making the iPhone lighter and waterproof.

1.    Improved Battery Life

While still lacking compared to its android rivals, the iPhone 7 does have improved battery life, giving you more juice when you're on the road. Expect 10-15% better battery life.

2.  Dual-camera system

Capture even more special moments and from different angles as the new iPhone offers more photography and video-recording options. The major additions are dual 12-megapixel lenses, able to snap SLR-quality photos and create special effects.

3. Siri enhancements

Siri will go deeper with commands, searching within apps on your phone to find the answer to your question or request. The intricacy sounds impressive, especially if Siri can help settle those bar arguments.

4.  No Headphone Jack

Are we all ready to go wireless all the time?

5.  Waterproof

Maybe you're caught in a storm, spill your beer or that trip to the swimming pool went horribly wrong. One of the reasons the headphone jack went away is to allow for waterproof technology, one that's a blessing for those that like to spend a lot of time outdoors.

6.  Storage

Many of us tape our swings; unfortunately, videos take a major bite out of a phone's storage, making the saving process an endeavor. However, the iPhone 7 has 32GB instead of 16GB, and it looks like the next two tiers will be 128GB and 256GB, meaning you won't have any storage worries.
