NFL Playoff Play of the Day: New Orleans Saints

It's the Saints offense vs. the 49ers defense.

The Saints are on the road in San Francisco, but as the Saints demonstrated last week, they can score when they need to and quickly.

The 49ers defense will be tested and look for them to be on their heels early.

Drew Brees with a big day and the Saints cover the 3.5 points.  New Orleans with a big playoff win on the road.

Bonus play: The OVER in the Patriots/Broncos game.  Over the 51.5.

Week 3 NFL Play of the Day: Tampa Bay

A battle of 3-1 teams as Tampa travels to San Francisco,

Tampa is getting 3, and I like them to win the game outright.  I can't see the 49ers doing much against the Buc's D.  I also think the San Fran defense will have some trouble with the balanced attack of Tampa led by Josh Freeman.

Tampa also doesn't mind going on the road as they are 15-5-1 ATS in their last 21 road games.

Take Tampa and the 3 points this week.

Singletary Fired by 49ers

Mike Singletary, the former Bears Hall of Fame linebacker was fired by the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday night after two disappointing seasons, including a 5-10 showing this year for a franchise that expected to win the NFC West.

The team made the announcement upon returning home late Sunday, several hours after San Francisco was eliminated from playoff contention with a 25-17 loss at St. Louis. Defensive line coach Jim Tomsula was promoted to interim coach and will run the team in the season finale at home against Arizona. He was to be formally introduced in a news conference Monday.

After team president and CEO Jed York told reporters in St. Louis after the loss he would think about whether Singletary would coach the final game, Singletary then was told of his dismissal.

Singletary was 18-22 in two-plus seasons with the 49ers.

The 52-year-old Singletary, who first took over as coach on an interim basis when Mike Nolan was fired in October 2008, had two years remaining on his contract.
