ATP Match of the Day: Karlovic vs. Isner

A battle of giants, literally.  6'10" vs. 6'9", in Houston on clay.  A nice quarter-final match.

Don't pay attention to the rankings and the surface, this will be close and a battle of serves.

The last time they played Isner came out on top in straights indoors in Memphis.  This is their first meeting on clay, and Karlovic may actually be playing a little better than Isner right now.

Still, it's in America and Isner might have a little more consistency in his game if that is possible.

I like Inser 7-6. 7-6.

Sony Ericsson Open Match of the Day: Federer vs. Simon

Roger Federer today plays someone he has a losing record against.  That is not something that happens often.

Federer does play Gilles Simon of France today and Simon has a 2-1 career advantage on Fed.

Federer leads in just about every other category, and has a win over Simon earlier this year in Australia.

Simon is a shotmaker and is playing some good tennis, but I like Roger in this one.

Federer will win 7-5, 6-4 in an entertaining match.

ATP Tour Match of the Day: Abierto Mexicano

If you like clay court tennis, today is your day with a couple great semi-final matches in Acapulco.

First up will be Almagro and Bellucci.  They've played once before with Almagro coming out on top in a three-setter.  Almagro is on a 12-match winning streak and is on his favorite surface.

Bellucci is more of an all-court player, but is also tough on clay.  Almagro has played a lot of tennis the past couple weeks, but he should be a little too much for Bellucci.

Prediction:  Almagro in two tough sets.

Then the nightcap, Ferrer and Dolgopolov.

Ferrer is the top seed in Acapulco and has never lost to Dolgopolov.  But Dolgopolov from the Ukraine is playing the best tennis of his life and sees a great opportunity here.

Prediction: I actually like Dolgopolov here in a three-set upset victory.

Should be a great day of tennis on clay, the action will be on Tennis Channel.  I hope more fans show u today that did yesterday.

ATP Tour Match of the Week: Roddick vs. Hewitt

In just about every category, on paper this looks like and even steven match today.

Expect for the current ranking.  Roddick is #8 and Hewitt has slipped all the way down to #70.

They have split 12 matches over their long careers, but Roddick has won the last 5.  Hewitt hasn't beaten Roddick since way back in 2005 at Indian Wells.  This match will be played on fast courts, indoors in Memphis.

Both are in good form coming into this match, but I think Roddick will have a little too much on serve for Lleyton.  This is always a good test for Roddick as Hewitt still returns serve well.

Father Time is creeping up on both players, but let's enjoy this one tonight.

Prediction:  Roddick 7-5, 7-6.

ATP Match of the Week: Juan Martin Del Potro vs. Lleyton Hewitt

A quarterfinal match tonight in San Jose, CA.

This may not be stellar tennis, but it's an intriguing match.

They have a 1-1 career head-to-head.

Both times they played was in 2009.  Hewitt won at Wimbledon and Del Potro won in Washington D.C. on hard courts.

This actually a pretty even pick at this point.  Del Potro is on his way back up after an injury and Hewitt is trying to hang on and have another good year.

Prediction:  Del Potro in 2 tough sets.  7-5, 7-6
