His name is Kyle Stanley and he has played in 17 PGA Tour events and has won $313,588 in three years since turning professional in 2009, his best finish is a tie for 13th at last week’s Mayakoba Classic in Mexico, and he has played in two majors, he played his college golf at Clemson... and that’s about it.
Stanley shot a 4-under-par 66 for a 134 total, one stroke better than the infinitely better-known Rory Sabbatini, who had the day’s best round with a 6-under 64 for a 135 total on the Champion Course at PGA National Resort & Spa.
“I played well,” said Stanley, a 23-year-old from the unlikely gol hotspot of Gig Harbor, Wash., “I controlled my golf ball really well, which is what you need to do out here. And I also putted well.
“I feel like I’ve been playing well all year but haven’t quite put four good rounds together, but I’m getting better, and that’s the main thing.
I love seeing it when these young players come out of nowhere and start playing well.
All the big names in golf are playing at the Accenture Match Play, which leaves a bunch of players that will be hungry for a win in Mexico. That means The Mayakoba Classic in Mexico is the place to be this week for PGA Tour Fantasy Golf.
Last year's winner Cameron Beckman is in the field along with Brian Gay, David Toms and a bunch of international players.
The course is a Greg Norman designed El Camaleon Golf Club and while playing 18 holes it will test the golfers in holes that take you through mangroves, along the ocean and through a mini jungle.
Here is this week's Buy, Sell, and Hold.
Buy:
Brian Gay (A) - With only a few A-level players playing in Mexico, Brian Gay is a must start. He finished T-5 at the Bob Hope and has been playing well. Gay currently sits 31st on the money list and is looking to improve on that this week.
David Toms (B) - Toms is always dangerous is a weak field event like this one. He has two missed cuts this season, but he could turn that around in Mexico.
Jhonattan Vegas (C) - How can you not play Vegas this week? He had another good run at the Northern Trust and is very consistent, Sits fourth on the money list.
Sell:
Scott Stallings (C) - Four events in 2011 and four missed cuts.
Chad Collins (C) - He's another one o the C-level players this week you don't want to pick. Has played in six events and has four missed cuts to his credit.
Michael Sim (A) - Sim has not finished under par in any tournament so far in 2011. With a limited number of A players to pick from this week, Sim is one to pass on.
Josh Teater (B) - With four missed cuts in six events so far this year, keep this Kentucky native off your team until later in the year. He's a fine player with potential, but after missing the cut badly at the Northern Trust, don't pick him up.
Hold:
Scott Verplank (C) - Veteran Scott Verplank is a late entry into the field this week. He is trying to shake off a nasty wrist injury and make some noise in 2011. He has only played one event so far this year, but if he feels health he could have a good week. A definite hold.

All golfers know it's long been a no-no to pull out your cell phone and use it on a golf course. While golfing, it will slow the pace of play, and while at a golf tournament it could distract golfers and other spectators.
This week, the PGA Tour is again letting spectators use their cell phones during actual tournament rounds at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro Am.

This year’s tournament will feature a test of mobile devices on course. Fans will be able to make cell phone calls in special calling areas on all three courses as well as follow the action online as long as they have their device on silent mode and do not use the camera function. We are confident this will enhance the spectator experience while preserving the integrity of the competition. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.
Ken Lovell with the PGA Tour said that It wasn't a premeditated move to do this test at the AT&T, though they are happy to conduct it there. AT&T is the title sponsor of this Pro Am, and AT&T's Mobility unit is headquartered in Atlanta. This is the 5th test the PGA Tour has done with allowing cell phone use on the tournament courses and each test has yielded positive results.
No, I'm not crazy. But I do play Fantasy Golf. It's what I do after another disappointing Fantasy Football season.
And what great timing, Fantasy Golf starts up just as Fantasy Football ends. Actually the Fantasy Golf league I've been involved in for four years is just as competitive as the main football league I participate in.
Here are the basics. There are three categories of golfers for each tournament. (A,B,C) You need to select golfers from each category and there scores are added up after each round to give you a score. The A-level players are typically your Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, and Ernie Els types. B-levels players include players like Justin Rose, Hunter Mahan, and Tim Clark. That leaves the C-level, which consists of players playing on a sponsor's exemption or guys like Cameron Beckman and Rocco Mediate.
Many weeks, your C-level player will determine how your team fares. If you have players that miss the cut, your scores will go down.
Different teams owners look at different factors when selecting a team each week. Some like going with the hot players, some like players that play well on certain courses. Sometimes you get that "gut" feeling and just go with an off-the-wall pick. One other thing to consider is you can usually use each player in 10 events the whole season. So you can't pick Tiger, Phil, Steve Stricker and John Daly each week. Well, I'm not sure you want to pick John Daly any week, but that's another story.
This week, the PGA season tees off with the annual Tournament of Champions in Hawaii. The track this week is the Plantation Course at Kapalua, and remember this is not a full-field event. 34 golfers this week, so that can help or hurt you as the tournament progresses.

Buy:
Geoff Ogilvy (A) - Two-time defending champ is in good form and loves playing in Hawaii.
Ernie Els (A) - Won recently in South Africa, has finished well many times here, and should be near the top this year.
Matt Kuchar (A)- One of the biggest surprises of 2010, he finished third here in 2010. He's a great putter.
Francesco Molinari (C) - You get good value with a Molinari Brother here as a C-level selection.
Sell:
Justin Rose (B) - Coming off a long layoff. The course suits him, but he might be rusty.
Derek Lamely (B) - Won the Puerto Rican Open last year to get here. He won't win this week.
Hold:
Rocco Mediate (C) - Well all root for Rocco, but do we want to start him here?
