Lee Corso in Duckhead Extends Hand to Blind Kid

ESPN's College Gameday had a nice segment today with a blind boy who is a big USC fan.  The kid gave great analysis and predictions with the Gameday crew.  This was quite refreshing, as the usual predictions are a bunch of promoting games that never live up to their billing.  And the last time Lee Corso gave some worthwhile analysis was...ummmmm  in the 80's.

When it came to the Ohio St. / Oregon game, Corso put on the Oregon Duck mascot head and tried to shake the boy's hand.  The kid couldn't see it coming, literally.  Corso then tried to cover by shaking Kirk's hand.  The whole thing was a little uncomfortable for me to watch, but the kid was great and knows his football.

New Year's Day Bowl Picks: 5 More Games

5 more games on the docket for today.

Outback Bowl - Northwestern and Auburn.  Can't stand Auburn, so I have to go with Northwestern who always plays exciting close games.  NW in a shootout.

Gator Bowl - West Virginia and Florida St.  Bobby Bowden's last game as head coach.  I have to think Florida St. will do whatever it takes to get the win for Coach.  I like Florida St. by 10.

Capital One Bowl - Penn St. and LSU.  I love this game, both are good bowl teams.  LSU may have a lttle more talent, but can they put it together.  It will be a close game and one I'll be watching.  Go with LSU.

Rose Bowl - A grand match up in the Grand Daddy of them all.  Two evenly matched teams.  Oregon rebounded to have a great season after an early loss.  Ohio St. is primed to win the game with some nice talent and a tough D.  Ohio St. with the win.

Bowl record so far: 13-7

Sugar Bowl - Florida and Cincy.  All sorts of news going on at Florida, and Cincy has a new coach.  Bet the house on this one, Florida in a blowout.

New Year's Eve Bowl Picks: 5 Games

A busy day with 5 games to be played today.

Armed Forces Bowl - Houston and Air Force. Normally I would find it hard to go against a Service Academy in The Armed Forces Bowl, but I have to this time. Houston will outscore Air Force.

Sun Bowl - Oklahoma and Stanford. Will The Sooners wake and up and show us the talent they have and take this game? I think so, Stanford has had a surprising team this year in the PAC 10, but Oklahoma will beat them up and win by 10.

Texas Bowl - Navy and Missouri. An even match, I didn't go with Air Force earlier, but I'll take Navy this time in a mild upset.

Insight Bowl - Minnesota and Iowa St. Two 6-6 teams go at it in Tempe. One thing for sure, fans of both teams are happy to be out of Minnesota and Iowa to enjoy some warmer weather in Arizona. I'm an Iowa State grad, so I have to say Go Cyclones! Iowa St by 6.

Chick-Fil-A Bowl - I still call this The Peach Bowl, but whatever. Tennessee and VA. Tech. VA Tech is a better team, and better coached. A close game with VA Tech pulling it out at the end.

 Bowl Record so far:  9-6

The Last Time The Cyclones Played in Phoenix

Iowa State played in The Insight.com Bowl in 2000, they beat Pitt and over 20,000 Cyclones fans at Bank One Ballpark (Yes, they played in a baseball stadium) went nuts, including me.

Players in the game included Antonio Bryant of Pitt, and Sage Rosenfels was Iowa State's QB.

Iowa State and its legions of fans play tomorrow in what is now called The Insight Bowl against Minnesota.  The Golden Gophers should pose stiff competition for ISU, and I'm expecting a close game.  Both teams are 6-6, but Iowa State being 6-6 is a major accomplishment since I thought they would win all of 2 or 3 games.

I'm looking forward to tomorrow night.  The game is on The NFL Network.  Happy New Year's!
