41 Years, 1 Championship... The Milwaukee Bucks
One this day, Oct 16, 1968 the Milwaukee Bucks played their first NBA game, against the Chicago Bulls and lost.
There have been lots of wins and losses since then, but the NBA team I root for is a source of frustration for the city that has supported them since day 1.
Remember the Championship in 1971? Not many do, but Lew Alcindor was leading the way with the help of Oscar Robertson "The Big O". Alcindor, now Kareem was eventually traded, and the Bucks signed Big Bob Lanier and his size 22 shoes.
In the 80's the Bucks were competitive. With players like Sidney Moncrief, Paul Pressey and Terry Cummings the Bucks advanced to the Eastern Conference Finals numerous times. The problem was either the Celtics or Sixers, or bother were usually in their way.
New owner, Senator Herb Kohl bought the Bucks, and in the 90's they started playing in a state of the art arena, The Bradley Center. To say they were mired in mediocrity was an understatement. They drafter Ray Allen and Glenn Robinson, but other than a run in 2001 where they got to the Eastern Conference Finals again, and lost.
The Bucks are still peddling along. They have Michael Redd, Andrew Bogut and a recent draft pick in Joe Alexander. They are missing something, and I can't figure it out. Oh, i know, we need a player like Lebron James, but what team doesn't?
