The Yanks are Comin' at The Atlanta Tennis Championships

Americans were 4 for 4 in advancing to the quarter-finals at The Atlanta Tennis Championships. Americans advancing in ATP events on American soil is a great thing for fans, the tournament organizers, sponsors and the players too. With a heat index approaching 100 degrees Taylor Dent was the first match on Stadium Court at about 4pm. Dent and 4th seed Horacio Zeballos played a 3-setter where Dent appeared to get stronger as the match progressed and Zeballos faded like a cloud on the horizon. As Dent was wrapping up his match, Michael Russell won a close 3-setter of his own defeating Rainer Schuettler. Up next on Stadium Court was John Isner playing in his first sigles match since Wimbledon. Isner ws glad tiebreakers were played in this match as he won 2nd and 3rd set breakers to take the match over an inspired Gilles Muller. Isner will play Russell on Friday. Wednesday's late match was a contest between Mardy Fish and local product Robby Ginepri. Fish got out to a fast start and held off a hard charging Ginepri 6-1, 7-5. Fish will take on Dent on Friday. More Americans will be in action on Thursday as Andy Roddick and Donald Young will be in action. Also, 3rd seed Lleyton Hewitt will play his first match. As a bonus, many Americans are still alive in doubles as well.
