Happy 30th Caddyshack!

The cult golf farce Caddyshack was released 30 years ago on July 25, 1980. The follow-up to Animal House stars Saturday Night Live vets Chevy Chase and Bill Murray, Rodney Dangerfield, Ted Knight, a sexy character named Lacey Underall and a cute dancing gopher.

The story is pretty simple: Real-estate magnate Al Czervik (Dangerfield) wants to demolish Bushwood Country Club, owned by Judge Snails (Knight). They're at odds throughout the movie. Meanwhile, suave golf pro Ty Webb (Chase) hooks up with Lacey (Cindy Morgan). So does caddy Danny Noonan (Michael O'Keefe).

Do you know it's Tiger Wood's favorite movie?  And he isn't alone, it debuted to zero fanfare and rotten reviews exactly 30 years ago today when the prodigy was four and golf was an institution needing a good poke in the ribs. Harold Ramis and the late Doug Kenney were looking to follow up on the commercial success of Animal House with another irreverent work.

It is still popular today, and the lines from the movie can be heard at municipal courses and country clubs everyday.  It was billed as the Snobs vs. The Slobs, but it was much more than that.

I've seen it more than 100 times and Spaulding Smales III still cracks me up.
