Tropical Storm Colin Downgraded

The third named storm of the 2101 Atlantic hurricane center came and went Aug. 3.

The National Hurricane Center announced Tuesday morning that tropical depression four had strengthened into a tropical storm.

A little over three hours later, the NHC said the storm had degenerated into a trough of low pressure.

Meteorologists said there was a possibility the storm could regain strength as it continued moving west-northwestward in the Atlantic Ocean.

No other tropical weather activity was reported.

Hurricane forecasters predicted before the season began on June 1 that as many as 23 named storms would form.

New forecasts will be released on Wednesday and Thursday. The busiest part of the season historically is August and September.

Hurricane season ends Nov. 30.
