Former Georgia Tech Asst. Basketball Coach Suspended for Hitting Player

Slideshow: Holy Family Incident On Tape: MyFoxPHILLY.com

Former Georgia Tech Assistant Basketball Coach John O'Connor was suspended today for hitting one of his players.

O’Connor, who worked at Tech from 2005 to 2010 as director of operations and then assistant coach for current head coach Paul Hewitt.

He is in his first year coaching at Division II Holy Family University in Philadelphia.

The above video  shows a practice from last month in which sophomore forward Matt Kravchuk gets knocked to the ground by O’Connor and then is verbally abused by the coach. You’ll see Kravchuk getting hit, then even half-kicked as O’Connor yells at him to, “Get up!”

This incident happened back in January and O'Connor reamined coaching or five gaes after the incident.  School officials were investigating the incident but had no comment about it.  Kravchuk felt they were trying to cover it up and he then filed a police report.
