St. Louis Airport Hit by Tornado - Raw Video Footage

Word is that St. Louis Lambert International is going to be closed for a few days.

There were no reports of injuries in the residential areas, despite the wide swath of destruction in a heavily populated area about three-quarters of a mile west of the airport.

Four people were injured by flying glass at the airport when the main terminal was hit by what appeared to be a tornado.

"We're assuming that (a tornado) is what it was," said National Weather Service meteorologist Ben Miller.

Flights from the city's Lambert Airport were being diverted to Kansas City. The airport remained closed indefinitely on Saturday morning, with Monday expected to be the earliest it might open.

Workers and cranes were cleaning debris on Saturday from the roof of one terminal building, where the storm had left gaping holes.

St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay said he was bringing "all hands on deck" to get the airport reopened.

Another Air Traffic Controller Asleep

This time in Reno.

The Federal Aviation Administration said Wednesday it suspended an air traffic controller for falling asleep at work and being out of communication for 16 minutes, forcing a medical flight to land overnight without local support.

"Can't seem to get a hold of the tower here," the pilot of the LifeGuard flight says in an audiotape recording. "We will circle some more. We've got a pretty sick patient. We may have to just land."

Two Planes Have a Fender Bender at JFK

A wing of an Airbus A380, clipped the tail of a Comair commuter plane while taxiing out to depart John F. Kennedy International Airport on Monday night.

Air France Flight 7, bound for Paris, was taxiing on a runway when its left wingtip struck the tail of Comair Flight 6293, which had just landed from Boston and was taxiing to its gate at Kennedy.

A scary incident, but no injuries reported.
