Tsumani Sirens in Alaska

A magnitude-7.9 earthquake detected in the Gulf of Alaska has triggered tsunami warnings in Alaska and tsunami watches across several Western states.

The earthquake struck about 175 miles southeast of Kodiak, Alaska, shortly after midnight Alaska local time, according to preliminary figures from the United States Geological Survey. The quake had a depth of about 15 miles, according to the USGS. The earthquake previously had been measured at magnitude 8.2.

Town's Cat Mayor Recovering After Attack by Dog

"Stubbs" the cat, honorary mayor of the Alaskan town of Talkeetna, is recovering in a veterinary hospital after he was savagely attacked by a dog over the weekend.

A loose dog attacked the orange cat on Saturday, leaving the town's mayor with a large gash, a fractured sternum and a punctured lung, the Anchorage Daily News reports.

Lauri Stec, manager of Nagley's General Store where Stubbs spends much of his time on the counter, said that by late Tuesday afternoon, Stubbs was medication but doing well after his chest tube was removed, the Daily News reported. Stec said people across the U.S. have offered to donate money to help offset the cost of her vet bills.
