TX Gov. Perry to Run for President

Gov. Rick Perry of Texas has joined the race for president and will officially announce the launch of his campaign on Saturday in South Carolina, aides confirmed Thursday.

Perry was already expected to make the announcement he was running for president at the third annual RedState conference in Charleston. Since news reports about the event never used the word “announce,” many assumed that Perry would officially kick off the event at some point afterward, perhaps at an event in Texas.

Perry is scheduled to speak at the conservative gathering at 1 p.m. in front of approximately 550 attendees, according to RedState.com. Two other Texan Republicans, former Texas Railroad Commissioner Michael Williams and former Solicitor General Ted Cruz, both candidates for Congress, are also scheduled to speak at the conference that day.

Perry is also expected to attend an evening house party at the home of New Hampshire Rep. Pamela Tucker Saturday, according to the New Hampshire Union-Leader. Perry is then scheduled to head to Iowa, where his activities will include a GOP dinner Sunday where both he and Michelle Bachmann are reportedly expected to speak.

3/2/11 is iPad2 Day

Apple is expected to unveil a second-generation iPad on Wednesday in San Francisco.

The Internet is abuzz with industry insiders and Apple lovers expressing desires and speculation regarding what the maker of iPhones, iPods, iPads, and Macintosh computers has in store at an invitation-only event in San Francisco.

Cryptic invites provided the date, time and location of the event and displayed an image of a March 2 calendar page peeling back to reveal a corner of an iPad.

The message on the page reads "Come see what 2011 will be the year of."

I guess you can say "Year of the Tablet."

Apple sold 14.8 million iPads through the end of 2010, according to the company's earnings statements.

The second-generation iPad is expected to be slimmer with increased memory, a more powerful computer chip, and front and rear-facing cameras giving it the "FaceTime" video-conferencing ability featured on iPhone 4 smartphones.

The festivities begin at 1pm Eastern time on Wednesday.

Beatles on iTunes Tomorrow

Breaking News

According to unofficial reports, Steve Jobs will announce the debut of The Beatles catalog on iTunes at a press event on Tuesday.

Reports say a deal has been hammered out between Apple, reps for The Beatles and record label EMI.

The parties have been going back and forth in legal battles since 1978 when The Beatles accused Apple of infringing on its trademark, Apple Corps Ltd., the flagship of Apple Records.

Looking forward to the announcement tomorrow, although anyone who wanted Beatles on their iPods, I'm sure already has it.
