2011 Australian Open Women's Singles Final Prediction

One player who most thought would be here in Kim Clijsters and one surprise in Na Li of China.

The head to head here shows Clijsters with a 4-2 edge, but Li won a coupe weeks ago in Sydney.  Let me remind you, this isn't Sydney and Clijsters has more Grand Slam finals experience that just about anyone this side of Steffi Graf and Martina Navratilova.

Give Clijsters the big edge in that, but give Li the edge for playing inspired tennis to get to this point.

Clijsters knows she won't have many more opportunities for Slam victories, so I expect her to come out on fire and dominate Li.  Still a good showing for Li, but the title goes to Kim.  Bring on the Todd Woodbridge interview.

Day 11: Australian Open Matches of the Day

It appears to be #3 vs. #2 day at the Australian Open.

Two semi-finl matches that should produce a lot of drama today and tonight in Melbourne.

First up will be the key women's match featuring Kim Clijesters and Vera Zvonareva.

Zvonareva is the higher ranked of the two, but Clijsters has to be the favorite.  Clijsters leads the head to head series 6-3 including a two meetings in Grand Slam events last year.  Each took one and this could be called the rubber match.  Normally I would be on the Clijsters bandwagon, but she has played a little sloppy in some matches.  Zvonareva has been solid and looks mentally tough.

Prediction:  I hate to go against Clijsters, but I have a feeling, Zvonareva in 3.

The mens semi between Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic will probably decide the Australian Open Championship.  These two are hitting on all cylinders coming into this match.

Djokovic got Federer at the U.S. Open last year.  He appears to be playing well enough to take out Federer again.  It's so hard to go against Federer.

I'm looking for Federer to pull it out in 4 tough sets.

Looking forward to a night of great tennis.

Day 2: Australian Open Matches of the Day - The Night Session

What a night session for Tuesday in Australia.

A couple of former women's world #1's.  Australia's best hope, and a former #1 in Lleyton Hewitt, along with an Argentine player who can beat anyone on this surface.  Also, two of these players were at one time, engaged.

Clisters leads the series 7-2 and won the last time they played in Cincinnati last year.  I would have to say the Belgian should win in two sets, but expect Safina to give everything she has.

Hewitt and Nalbandian should be a close 5-setter.  We all remember the epic match they played in the quarters back in 2005, whern Hewitt came out on top 10-8 in the 5th set.  Nalbandian has won the last two meetings, expect to see a Nalbandian win here in 4 sets.

Women's Singles - 1st Round
  Dinara Safina(RUS) vs.   Kim Clijsters(BEL)[3]

  Men's Singles - 1st Round
  David Nalbandian(ARG)[27] vs.

  Lleyton Hewitt(AUS)

U.S. Open Day 9: Match to Watch

 Women's Singles - Quarterfinals
  Samantha Stosur(AUS)[5] vs.

  Kim Clijsters(BEL)[2]

Another women's match to watch.  Both are aiming for a spot in the semis.  There should be some hard hitting and supurb shotmaking in this one.  It's hard for me to go against Clijsters at this point.

Prediction: Clijsters in 2 tiebreaks.
