This Year Army vs. Navy is all About Football

The college football regular season will conclude Saturday when the Army Black Knights take on the Navy Midshipmen in one of the greatest rivalries in all of sports.  It's the 111th meeting.  Both of these teams have made Bowl games this year as Navy will take on San Diego St in the San Diego Credit Union Poinsettia bowl, while the Black Knights will take on SMU in the Armed Forces Bowl. Despite the fact that the bowl match-ups are already set, both of these teams will not consider this a successful year unless they win this game on Saturday.  Look for more scoring than usual this time around.

Ricky Dobbs runs the show offensively for the Midshipmen. He doesn’t throw much, but when he does he’s very successful. He has a 156 passer rating and has thrown 10 TD passes in just 124 attempts. Dobbs also leads the running game with over 800 yards and 13 touchdowns. Alexander Teich and Gee Gee Greene have contributed an additional 1200 yards and 9 scores as part of this option attack. Army will have a difficult time slowing them down, but they will have the chance to stay with them score for score with a top-10 run game of their own.

The Black Knights aren’t quite at the level Navy is in running the ball, but they are getting better each year. They finished the year in the top-10 in rushing, but finished dead last in passing with a horrific 78 yard per game average. Trent Steelman is Army’s version of Dobbs. He can make a pass when needed, but is counted on more to lead their option offense. His main purpose is to hand the ball off to Jared Hassin who leads the Knights with 881 rushing yards. Steelman and Hassin combined for 20 rushing touchdowns this year, and will make it difficult for the 45th ranked Navy defense.

Could be a wide open and fun game to watch.  Enjoy Army vs. Navy.
