What are the New York Knicks thinking?
I couldn't beleive it when I read that Thomas was hired as a consultant, the team announced Friday. He will also remain as head basketball coach at Florida International University, which hired him last year. There has to be a conflict of interest in this deal somewhere.
Thmoas' previous tenure with the Knicks is nothing short of a disaster. He served as president of basketball operations, starting shortly after he was hired in December 2003. He hired and fired several coaches, including Larry Brown, before taking over the job himself when he fired Brown in June 2006. He was also the central figure in a sexual harassment case brought by another Knicks executive, Anucha Browne Sanders, and in 2007 a federal jury found for Sanders in the case, but did not order Thomas to pay her punitive damages. Madison Square Garden settled the case with her for $11.6 million.
Thomas also acquired big-name players, most of whom underperformed, and the team’s performance suffered. The messiest of those signings was guard Stephon Marbury, who grew disgruntled and was eventually ordered to stay away from the team.
The Knicks were 56-108 in Thomas’s two seasons as coach and did not have a season with a winning record while he was president, despite a payroll that ranked among the N.B.A.’s highest each year.
Remember before joining the Knicks he ran the CBA to the brink of folding. He's incompetent and and idiot. The Knicks and Thomas deserve each other.
