Rain Forces Chicago NASCAR Race to Monday

Rain on Sunday forced NASCAR to postpone the opening race of the Chase for the Sprint Cup championship.
NASCAR rescheduled the Chicago race for Monday at noon Eastern.

The forecast didn't look good from the start, but because the facility has lights, NASCAR waited all day for a window to dry the track. Officials got the window and had the track almost dry, but the sky opened again roughly six hours after the scheduled start.

"We appreciate the fans hanging in there with us and we know that rain presents an issue that nobody has much control over and it's uncomfortable," NASCAR president Mike Helton said earlier Sunday. "But I think it's in everybody's best interest to try to get it in and we've got time to wait and see."

Matt Kenseth will start from the pole at Chicagoland when the race goes off on Monday, and he said he didn't think the full day of rain would present many problems for drivers.

British Open Weather: Cloudy with a Chance of Anything

The weather forecast for this week's British Open at Royal St. George's on England's southeastern tip is about what you would expect, some rain on Tuesday, a bit of wind to whip up interest Wednesday and a mix of sunshine and showers once play gets under way on Thursday morning.

On Wednesday, the wind gusted to more than 30 mph on a cloudy, cool day, turning par-3s into driver holes and showing the importance of patience, persistence and a grind-it-out mind-set when the weather turns, as it always seems to do at these seaside courses.

"The guy who can scrap it around and make pars from off the green, hole some long putts ... especially when it's very tough like it was today, that's the key to playing well," Luke Donald, the world's top-ranked player, said after his practice round

Once again the recipe for surviving the weather; one word, patience.

Problems With U.S. Ryder Cup Team Golf Bags as well

As if the debacle with the rain gear the U.S. Ryder Cup team was wearing wasn't enough, there also appear to be issues with the golf bags as well.

The bags have been taking on water in Wales.  Steve Williams was seen trying to shield Tiger's bag with towels.

Not sure who makes this bag, but whoever selected the gear for the U.S. team needs to answer for their decisions.

Paul Azinger, who is doing commentary has called the whole situation a disaster.

More details as they become available and as this plays out.
