U.S. Open Match to Watch: Day 1

Couldn't pick just one match to highlight for day 1, so how about two choices.

Ryan Harrison vs. Marin Cilic

and

Grigor Dimitrov vs. Gael Monfils

If you are on the U.S. Open grounds tomorrow, you can't go wrong with either of these matches.

Harrison and Cilic will be playing on Louis Armstrong Stadium at 11:00.  Harrison, the young American has had a productive summer.  Harrison is up to #66 on the ATP computer and he could even be higher if a few points would've gone his direction in L.A.  Cilic has kind of hit a plateau with his game and his ranking.  He has big-time talent and should play well on hard courts.

I like Harrison getting the New York crowd behind him and fighting hard to a 4-set victory.

At 5pm on Louis Armstrong, another rising young player, Grigor Dimitrov will take on the popular French player Gael Monfils.  Monfils wil be airborne for some shots, sliding for others, and running down every shot.  Dimitrov reminds many of a young Roger Federer, but needs work on his backhand.  I like Monfils in 4 entertaining sets.

Photos from Atlanta Tennis Championships Day 6

Our finals are set for Sunday in both singles and doubles.  Mardy Fish and John Isner renew their rivalry in Atlanta.  In doubles, the German team of Bachinger and Moser take on Bogomolov Jr. and Matthew Ebden.  Ebden is on quite a roll as he won in Newport as well.

Some long close matches on the grounds today.  Ryan Harrison was impressive and #5 seed Grigor Dimitrov was upset.

Wimbledon Day 4 Match of the Day: Ferrer vs. Harrison

I can't wait for the Court 2 encounter between David Ferrer and upstart Ryan Harrison.  Harrison is America's next best tennis hope and his game translates well to the grass courts of the All England Club.

Ferrer is a wiley veteran who is competent on grass, but not spectacular.

It's interesting to note that Harrison only got into the tournament at the last minute when fellow American Robert Kendrick pulled out.  Harrison last week lost in the final round of qualifying.  This works to Harrison's advantage, he's playing with house money and under virtually no pressure.

I like Harrison in this spot, with his big serve and on the grass.  Of note, Ferrer won't give an inch and will play with all he has.

I still like Harrison to win a tough 4-setter.

Go Ryan!
