Fan Dies After Falling From Upper Deck at Georgia Dome
A Tennessee Football fan fan fell from the upper deck at the Georgia Dome Friday night during the NC State vs. Tennessee football game.
Investigator Leon Harrison at the Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office told The Associated Press early Saturday that Isaac Grubb of Lenoir City, Tenn., was pronounced dead Friday night, minutes before midnight, at an Atlanta hospital.
Emergency crews said a 20-year-old male fell about 35 feet from the upper level and landed on another person sitting in the mezzanine area.
Fans who were near the man that fell said he was sitting in section 311, behind the endzone.
From WSBTV.com:
"Tennessee had scored a touchdown -- I believe it was the second. There were three people who weren't with [our group]. It looked like [the man who fell] was doing a fist pump, and then he was gone over the top," said William Coates, Tennessee fan from Arkansas. "He wasn't moving. His chest was moving a little."
“He was just laying there [in the section below] between rows. It took like 15 minutes for the medical workers to get there."
After the medical workers arrived he was taken to Atlanta Medical Center.
Georgia World Congress Center police are currently investigating the incident. So far, there is no word if alcohol played a factor in the incident.
Harrison said the other fan was a man who was subsequently treated at another Atlanta hospital and released. He had no further details on the man's identity or his condition.
