Limpert Tech "SullyCast" on ALT 105.7 and iHeartRadio - 2/16/19 - Rick's Two Events this Week

Rick attended two big events in Atlanta this week.

The Technology Association of Georgia "Summit"
and
The Oracle Grow Live - Netsuite event with Magic Johnson

Rick and Sully talk about some of the topics at these two great events

1. TAG is the Technology Association of Georgia
www.tagonline.org

Their "Summit" is their biggest event each year.

So each year, the state’s tech community gathers at the Cobb Galleria Centre in Cobb County to celebrate and take a look at where the business of technology is heading in Georgia.

The Summit brings together and engages more than 1,200 prominent technology, business and thought leaders centered around the most prominent and relevant trends that are sparking, disrupting and driving innovation today through the Technology Association of Georgia (TAG) — one of the country’s largest technology associations with 34,000+ members.

Summit Day is an invitation to engage with the tech community! It provides an opportunity to learn, meet, and discover new ways for your company to get involved, develop relationships, and identify potential partnerships. The Summit allows you to ‘be in the know’ on who is leading the industry in innovation and inspiring what’s next in technology.

The Summit showcased nationally recognized speakers, trending content sessions, the newest inductee into the Technology Hall of Fame of Georgia, and Georgia’s most innovative tech companies revolutionizing business. Attendees will also have an opportunity to demo the latest technology and interact with TAG’s 27 tech professional societies for ways to get plugged into what’s happening in the Georgia tech market. Keynotes were delivered by Tiffani Bova and Guy Kawasaki.

2.   Awards Given Away this week:

Top 10 and Top 40 Innovative Companies of Georgia
Companies selected as the “Top 10” and “Top 40” Innovative companies are showcased at The Summit, including an opportunity for the “Top 10” to address the Summit’s attendees.

“Top 40” recognition is awarded based on specific criteria focused on innovation, including:
degree of innovation
scope and financial impact of innovation
likelihood of success
promotion of Georgia's innovative efforts nationally and internationally

3. Highlights of the Summit and reports released

Georgia continues to be a top technology employment market
Georgia's technology sector grew significantly faster than the US average and employs nearly 300,000 private sector tech employees
Technology wages in the state have continued to increase – up 2.6% over last year, which is more than the increase seen from 2016 to 2017
Capital invested in Georgia remained high - and the total number of deals was the second highest since the report began tracking in 2012

4. Magic Johnson in town for Oracle Netsuite

Grow Beyond!

For more than 20 years, Oracle NetSuite has helped organizations grow, scale and adapt to change. NetSuite provides a suite of cloud-based applications, which includes financials, along with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), HR, professional services automation and omnichannel commerce. It’s one-stop shopping for businesses all over the world.

Netsuite is always being optimized for “what’s coming next.” New themes, new extensions and new ways to track sales and merchandise where introduced recently.

5. The Wisdom of Magic

Magic has been more than successful as he's made the transition from the basketball court to the boardroom.
He is involved in many successful business ventures.

Johnson may have retired from the National Basketball Association in 1991, but he says he needed to start his own business but lacked the knowledge. The key, he said, was getting mentors.

Atlanta played a key role in Johnson’r business success. He started off by leveraging on the spending power of African Americans who spend a trillion dollars a year. His first venture, after putting up Magic Johnson Enterprises, was investing in movie theaters.

“Our first movie theater ended up topping revenue for its opening weekend and was one of the highest grossing in the business.”

6. Magic on Teamwork, Building his Brand

He touched on his basketball career, what it takes to build a team and how he loves to hire and work with young people since they have fresh ideas and a glimpse into the future.

Other tidbits from Johnson included his philosophy on creating brand ambassadors by overserving and he told a great story about how he landed his first Disney contract.
