1/29/11 Big XII Basketball Play of the Day

The Texas Longhorns

Many a college basketball expert missed the boat that week when a determined Texas Longhorn basketball team went into Allen Fieldhouse and took down the undefeated Jayhawks.

I'm not going to sleep on Texas this week.  They play a ranked Missouri team at home, but to say a few trends are going Texas' way is an understatement.

Look at this :

  • Longhorns are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games as a favorite.
  • Longhorns are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games following a S.U. win.
  • Longhorns are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games following a ATS win.
  • Longhorns are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games overall.
  • Longhorns are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 vs. Big 12.
  • Longhorns are 8-1 ATS in their last 9 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600
  •

Let's just take Texas and give the 7 to Missouri.  And while we are at it, the total is sitting at 145.5.  Let's get crazy and take the OVER.

This game can be found on ESPNU tonight at 8 eastern time.

NBA Thursday Play of the Night: Heat

The Heat play the Knicks in Madison Square Garden on Thursday night. New York lost the previous two meetings.  A big snowstorm has crippled New York, but he game is expected to be played.

The Heat are only giving 4 and the Knicks are a much improved team.

I say you have to go with the Heat here.

The Heat are 9-3 ATS in their last 12 games as a road favorite, while the New York Knicks are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games as a home underdog of 0.5-4.5 points.  I actually like the Heat in a blowout, they usually play well in situations like this.

    I can feel the Heat!

Big XII Basketball Play of the Day for 1/22/11

    Kansas

Kansas and Texas in a good Big XII tilt this afternoon.  Kansas comes in undefeated and ranked #2.  Texas is 15-3 and ranked #11 heading to Lawrence.

Kansas is favored by only 7.  I think it should be more.  Texas is 3-10 ATS in their last 13 Sat. games, and 7-20-1 ATS in their last 28 vs. Big 12 teams.  Not looking good for Texas here.  Kansas is loaded and is looking like a Final Four team right now.  The Jayhawks are averaging over 83 points a game and only giving up 61.

It will be tough for Texas to keep this within 10 points.  Take Kansas and give the paltry 7 points.
Bonus Pick:  This game has gone over the last 5 meetings between these two teams playing in Lawrence.  Take the over 143.  Good Luck!

NBA Thursday Night Play of the Day: Bulls

The Bull and Mavs tonight at the United Center.

The teams sport almost identical records, but the Bulls have an impressive 18-4 record at home.

Can they cover the 3.5 they are giving Dallas?  I say yes.  The Bulls are 3-0-1 ATS in their last 4 home games vs. a team with a winning road record and 15-5-1 ATS in their last 21 vs. NBA Southwest.

The Bulls aren't sure if Carlos Boozer is going to play in this game, but it shouldn't make a difference with the Bull being at home and Dallas having lost 6 out of their last 7.

Saturday's Big XII Play of the Day: K-State

Texas Tech at Kansas State on Saturday.

I love watching Big XII Basketball on Saturday afternoons.  It's high quality basketball and most of the time the games come down to the last few minutes.

I'll try and make a Big XII pick each Saturday.  Let's hope I do as well as I did ending the college football season.

Kansas State is in a bit of a slump starting Big XII play and Texas tech actually has a losing record.  I expect K-State to rebound with a big home victory here over the Red Raiders.

Texas Tech is 1-8 ATS in their last 9 games overall and Kansas State.  In this series, the home team is 10-3 ATS in the last 13 meetings.  So all this, and the fact that Texas Tech appears to be in for a long season, I say take the Kansas State Wildcats and give the points, probably 11 or 12.

    Good luck this season.
