What the Heck is in a 'Peep'

I don't eat them at Easter or anytime of the year, but apparently many others do.

I'm talking about Peeps.

NPR has stated that Americans will eat at least 600 million Peeps this Easter.

Each Peep has 32 calories or160 in a five-pack.  There is no fat and no cholesterol, but they do, however, have a full 13% of your daily dose of carbohydrates.

Here is a list of the ingredients: sugar, corn syrup, gelatin, contains less than 0.5% of the following ingredients: yellow#6 lake, maltodexrtin, natural flavors, potassium sorbaate,(a preservative), yellow #6, yellow #5 (tartrazine, red #40, blue#1.  Looks like no dairy, no eggs and no nuts.  So, eat up.

RickLimpert.info Picture of the Week: Gary Busey

If you watch The Apprentice on Sunday nights, you'll know that Gary Busey was the project manager this week.  The teams were selling one of my favorite food items, Omaha Steaks.

If you can still catch this episode, watch it!  Busey is out of control but effective at the same time.

Man Fires Shots After Taco Bell Raises Burrito Prices

Wait until he tries the new nachos.

A Taco Bell drive-through customer who became enraged because of a price increase on Beefy Crunch Burritos fired a BB gun through the window at a manager on Sunday, police said.

As the restaurant's employees and customers hit the floor, the manager called police, and when officers arrived, the angry patron fired several shots at the police cars, the Police said.

The problem started because the burritos had been sold for 99 cents each as a promotion, but the man was apparently angry that the promotion had ended, and the price had gone up to $1.49.

The name of the 'taco rage' suspect has not been released because he had not yet been formally charged early Monday. Benavides said that the man will be charged with three counts of attempted capital murder, and that additional charges are possible.

The man did not get any tacos.

More Subways than McDonald's

I was kind of surprised to learn that there are now more Subway restaurants than McDonald's.

The sub sandwich chain surpassed the world's largest hamburger chain in terms of number of stores in the U.S. in 2002 and now it has taken the global lead.

Subway had 33,749 restaurants worldwide at the end of last year, according to the company. McDonald's Corp. had 32,737, according a regulatory filing.

Subway is entirely franchisee-owned. That has been part of its success, Pace said. Its smaller-format stores cost less to open and operate than other chain restaurants. The company's emphasis on cost-control, marketing and advertising has also helped grow the brand.

Subway, like many restaurant chains, is making a major push in international markets.

Subway is also the leader in giving the customer more healh conscious food options.

March 6 is National Frozen Food Day

Frozen Foods hit our grocery stores in the early 1930s after Mr. Birdseye himself invented this precious commodity. More than 50 years later, the frozen delights got their own special holiday. In 1984, President

Ronald Reagan made the chilly announcement that March 6 is officially Frozen Food Day. He called upon all Americans to "observe such day with appropriate ceremonies and activities."
