Edison Pena on 'Letterman'

This continues to be a great story.

Edison Pena, one of the trapped Chilean miners was on "The Late Show" with David Letterman Thursday night.

Letterman, who was really into this interview asked Pena what it was like to be a miner.

"The first time I went into a mine, I wanted to turn around and get out," Pena said through a translator. "That wasn't really an option."

Letterman informed him, "a lot of people feel the same way about appearing on this show."

Pena spoke about the difficulties of using the bathroom while trapped, whether he will run the New York City Marathon, and even does a decent Elvis impression.

Rescued Chilean Miner to run NYC Marathon

While trapped in the mine in Chile he tried to stay in shape by jogging in the tunnels and running sprints in place.  This weekend, the whole world will be watching the New York City Marathon, not to see who wins, but to chear on one of the Chilean miners who plans to compete.

Edison Peña, miner #12 who was recently rescued in Chile was invited by NYC Marathon officials to watch the race after hearing his story when the 33 miners were rescued last month.

Marathon organizers had in mind that he could ride in the lead vehicle or hold the finish line tape, but never expected the Chilean consulate to tell them that Peña wants to run the 26.2-mile marathon.

Peña, nicknamed "El Deportista," is a dedicated and decorated triathlete.

In an effort to maintain his physical condition while distracting his mind from dwelling on the terrifying situation and prospect of never seeing his family again, Peña began running through the tunnels of the gold and copper mine. He logged between three and six miles per day.

It has been reported that he requested and received an iPod uploaded with Elvis Pressley music to listen to on those runs. MSNBC has indicated Pena and a family member will be invited to visit Graceland in Memphos as well.

New York Road Runners spokesman Richard Finn said attempts to make contact with Peña and officials at the Chilean consulate are ongoing.

Let's hope organizers can make this happen.

Bullwinkle's Creator Dies

Pioneering TV cartoon artist Alexander Anderson Jr. — who created Rocky the flying squirrel, Bullwinkle the moose and Dudley Do-Right the Canadian mountie — has died at age 90.

With the goggle-wearing Rocky leading his somewhat slow but good-natured friend, Bullwinkle, the duo battled villains Boris and Natasha, agents of the nation of Pottsylvania, in the fictional town of Frostbite Falls, Minn.

The show spawned movies and memorable phrases, such as Rocky's "Hokey smoke" and Bullwinkle's "Hey, Rocky, watch me pull a rabbit out of a hat."

The inspiration for Bullwinkle came from a dream Anderson had in which he was playing poker with friends and a moose doing "silly card things" was sitting next to him, Patricia Anderson said.

The character's name came from a car dealership in Berkeley called "Bullwinkel Motors," which her husband thought was funny, she said.

Anderson told the San Francisco Chronicle in 1991 that he found there was "something majestic" about a moose.

Before Rocky and Bullwinkle, Anderson worked on "Mighty Mouse" while apprenticing for his uncle, Paul Terry, whose Terrytoons cartoons were distributed in movie theaters by 20th Century Fox. Anderson worked with Terry before and after World War II, when he worked as an intelligence officer with the U.S. Navy in San Francisco.

Anderson began his own company with former University of California, Berkeley fraternity brother, Jay Ward, after Terry refused his suggestion to produce cartoons specifically for television.

The duo worked out of a garage behind Anderson's family's Berkeley home. There, they created Crusader Rabbit and his friend Rags the Tiger along with Dudley Do-Right of the Mounties and Rocky and Bullwinkle.

"Crusader Rabbit" was among the first animated series produced for television and aired on NBC in the 1950s.

Ward would go on to produce "Rocky and His Friends" on ABC in 1959. Anderson had decided to pursue a career in advertising and was not involved in the venture.

He later said he felt he had not received credit for his creations and won a lawsuit against Jay Ward Productions in 1993 that recognized him as the creator of the first versions of Rocky, Bullwinkle and Dudley Do-Right.

For Lindsay, it's Back to Court

Lindsay Lohan goes back to court Friday to face the judge and get the verdict - for violating her probation and failing two separate drug tests. The star, recently released from a 17-day jail stint and a shorter turn in rehab, tested positive for cocaine and amphetamines.

Per the terms of her probation, Linds could be sentenced to a 30-day jail sentence for each infraction. However, new courthouse rumors suggest that Lohan won’t spend even a single night in the pokey. Lindsay’s crimes are misdemeanors, which means bail will be set - and it will definitely be paid ASAP.

But that doesn’t mean the actress is totally out of the woods. Lindsay Lohan will go before the judge again in October for her probation violation hearing, where it is very likely she will be sentenced to 30 days for the first positive drug test (cocaine). Even so, the LA jails are still highly overcrowded, so it’s doubtful Linds will serve even one day of her 30-day sentence.

Are the likes of Lindsay and Paris ever goin to have to face justice?
