Braves Acquire Slugger Lee from Cubs

Derrek Lee and cash are headed to the Braves, it was confirmed after the Cubs' 5-1 loss to San Diego at Wrigley Field. The Cubs will receive minor league pitchers Robinson Lopez, Tyrelle Harris and Jeffrey Lorick; none are considered elite prospects.

This is a big move for the Braves as they needed another bat and some experience in the lineup.  One question will be, can Lee stay healthy?

Golfer Plays Final Round at PGA in Just Over 2 hrs.

Playing alone in the first group off when ailing Ian Poulter withdrew, Jay Overton walked 18 holes at Whistling Straits in 2 hours, 9 minutes, to break the PGA Championship record for quickest round.

"Awesome! My first record at a major," Overton said.

It beat the previous mark — by one minute — set by Phil Blackmaar at Crooked Stick in 1991.

The record is not official, of course. But the information came from Kerry Haigh, the championship director for the PGA of America, so somebody is keeping track of this stuff — even if Overton wasn't.

Overton opened with a bogey, took double bogey on the fourth and figured there wasn't much left for him to do but finish.

"I gave it my best, especially early," he said. "I got some bad breaks, and the next thing I know I said, 'Let's go ahead and get this round over with.'"

He finished the front nine in one hour, and made a clutch 7-foot putt for par on the last hole to shoot 79.

In relatively mild conditions Sunday morning, caddie Eric Larson was sweating. Larson has experience with fast play, having worked with Mark Calcavecchia several times.

Who's faster?

"Calc can't run down some of these hills," Larson said.

Overton was playing for the eighth time in 10 weeks and was exhausted. Closing with a 79 most likely will have no bearing on finishing among the top eight in the Ryder Cup standings to earn a spot on his first team. He is at No. 5, with two of the three players directly below him having missed the cut.

Nadal and Djokovic Show Off Soccer Skills

They may be the top two ranked tennis players in the world, but their soccer skills aren't too shabby either.

Following a practice session in Toronto they show that if they weren't tennis players, they might be pro soccer players.

Red Sox Sign Carlos Delgado

Are the Red Sox getting desperate?

I don't know if they are hitting the panic button, but it looks like they are getting close.

The Red Sox signed free agent first baseman Carlos Delgado on Saturday to help shore up their first base situation, according to FoxSports.com.

Earlier this week, Boston lost first baseman Kevin Youkilis for the season because of a thumb injury. Youkilis had season-ending thumb surgery Friday. That same day, the Red Sox worked out Delgado.

Delgado, who hasn’t played since May 2009 with the Mets, will be assigned to Class AAA Pawtucket. He is expected to serve as the lefthanded-hitting half of a platoon with Mike Lowell once he reaches the majors.

In his 17-season career with the Blue Jays, Mets and Marlins, the two-time All-Star has hit .280 with 473 homers and 1,512 RBIs.

Alert - Haynesworth Passes Conditioning Test

Finally.

On the tenth day of camp, Albert Hayneworth passed the Washington Redskins conditioning test Saturday morning, ending a daily soap opera that had overshadowed the first week-and-a-half of training camp.

Haynesworth arrived early at Redskins Park and completed both 300-yard back-and-fourth shuttle runs in the required times — and with no controversial bathroom break.

To pass, Hayneworth had to complete the first run in 70 seconds or less, the second run in 73 seconds or less. Each run consists of 12 back-and-forth 25-yard sprints.  He can now put on pads and practice with the rest of the team.
