Haynesworth Day 9: Nothing New

Nothing new to report on the Albert Haynesworth front.

He again did not take the team's conditioning test on Friday. Haynesworth was a spectator at the morning practice, one day after an MRI exam.  Nothing was found on the MRI.

Not surprisingly, The Wasington Post reported there is growing discontent with Haynesworth among the Redskins. The defensive lineman, whom coach Mike Shanahan has barred from practice until he passes the conditioning test, has not come close to passing the test since July 30.

Haynesworth has been working with coaches individually.

Maradona Dropped as Argentine Soccer Coach

He was sometimes more interesting to watch roaming the sidelines than his team was on the field.

Diego Maradona's stint as coach of the Albiceleste ended far less successfully than his time as a player with the national team. The Argentine Football Association, which hired the former star in November 2008, said Tuesday that his contract will not be renewed. The decision came 3 1/2 weeks after his team, led by star Lionel Messi, was eliminated from the World Cup with a humiliating 4-0 loss to Germany in the quarterfinals.

The federation had offered Maradona a four-year contract through the 2014 World Cup, but Maradona said he would do so only if his entire staff remained.

That was unacceptable to AFA president Julio Grondona. He had asked for several assistants to be replaced, including Maradona's close friend Alejandro Mancuso. The federation said its executive committee unanimously decided to not keep Mardona.

The spokesman hinted, however, there might be a role in the future for a man with an unpredictable history.

Jerry Jones and His Scoreboard

While giving a tour of his new stadium in Arlinton, Jerry Jones could not have been prouder of his new $40 million scoreboard.  That was until a Tennessee reserve punter named A.J. Trapasso hit it in a 30-10 preseason loss to Dallas.

Now Cowboy's owner Jerry Jones is wiping he egg off his face, and providing damage control while deciding what to do about his low hanging scoreboard.  The NFL may end up telling him what to do.  There will be an emergency meeting of the NFL Competition Committee soon to talk about the problem, and how it might be fixed.
