U.S. Amateur Comes to Johns Creek

The oldest golf championship comes to North Fulton and Johns Creek in about 10 days as the U.S. Amateur begins play at the Atlanta Athletic Club.

I was fortunate enough to play in Media Day this week and they also had an impressive display of golf history on display with Bobby Jones' passport, a ball he used in the 1920s, replica Calamity Jane putters and the Havemeyer Trophy, for the winner of the Am.

Georgia and Boise St. Kick Off the Tennis Season Before Football

Yes, that's right, as a prelude to the Georgia/Boise St. Kick Off Classic Football game that will be played Saturday night at the sold out Georgia Dome, the men's tennis teams from the two schools took to the court in a little more quiet environment at the Atlanta Athletic Club to play some tennis.

Four singles, and two doubles matches were contested.

Each team won three matches.

Georgia features Wil Spencer.  Spencer is one of the top college players in the country and Boise's James Meredith is a fine player in his own right.  Also, I expect big things this year and in the future from Georgia freshman, Nathan Pasha, what a debut from him.

One On One With the Wanamaker Trophy

The 2011 PGA Championship will be held at the Atlanta Athletic Club this August.  Festivities kicked off today with one the most famous trophies in sports, The Wanamaker Trophy on display today at the club.

The Wanamaker Trophy

The best golfers in the world will be onsite to try and win this trophy.  David Toms hoisted the trophy back in 2001 at the AAC.

Tiger Woods has won it four times and he'll be back to try and equal Jack Nicklaus with five PGA victories.

The course looks fantastic and the club is one of the top places to hold an event like this.
