The Orange Bowl: Stanford vs. Virginia Tech

Am Orange Bowl featuring two of the hottest teams in college football.  Virginia Tech went 11-0 straight up and 9-2 against the spread after losing to Boise State and James Madison to open the year.

Stanford, meanwhile, blew out the majority of its opponents and led Oregon 21-3 after the first quarter before losing 52-31 in the end.

Stanford is giving VA Tech 3.5 pts, but I still like the Cardinal.

Stanford features the best quarterback in college football and a sure fire NFL starter in Andrew Luck.  The Hokies are stout on defense, one of the best teams at stopping opponents on 3rd down.  3rd downs will be crucial in this game. 

The Cardinal are 4-0-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall.  Look for them to be 5-0-1 after tonight's game.  Go with Stanford.

College Bowl Plays of the Day: Texas and Alamo Bowl

How about taking a pair of Big XII teams today with easy wins.

The Texas Bowl - Baylor

In what is almost a home game for Baylor, they face an Illinois team that is erratic as the winter weather.

Baylor is favored by 1, and they will cover that with ease.  The Bears really have a breakout season in the Big XII, and they keep recruiting well for the future.  They are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games as a favorite.  This bodes well for today and a cover over Ill.

The Alamo Bowl - Oklahoma St.

The Cowboys have an offense, that is quite offensive.  They have a super trio that includes running back Kendall Hunter, quarterback Brandon Weeden and wide receiver Justin Blackmon.  They pile up yards and score touchdowns. 

Depending on where you look Okie St. is favored by 4.5 or 5.  it doesn't matter, they have moretalent than Arizona and playig in San Antonio should attract a lot of Cowboy fans.

Other key trends: Arizona is 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games on grass, and Oklahoma St. is 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games overall.

College Bowl Play of the Day: Hawaii Bowl

Hawaii vs. Tulsa.

Hawaii is favored by 9.5 in the Hawaii Bowl.  Look at these trends:

Warriors are 8-0 ATS in their last 8 games as a favorite.

Warriors are 7-0 ATS in their last 7 home games.

Warriors are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games as a home favorite.

I think Hawaii is the play.  Tulsa may lose the game, but I'm jealous, they got to spend part of their holidays out in Hawaii.  Not a bad gig if you can get it. 

Take Hawaii and give the 9.5.

Saturday Night College FB Play of the Day

UCLA

The Bruins are getting 6.5 points at home to their rival USC.  UCLA is an average team, but USC is nothing great either.  UCLA plays better in big games and I expect them to keep this one close.

This one important trend favors the Bruins.  They are 16-7 ATS in their last 23 games as a home dog.  This game cold be ugly, but go UCLA.

Saturday Afternoon College FB Play of the Day

Oregon

The Oregon Ducks are so close to playing in a BCS Championship game.  One team stands in their way, their rivals, the Oregon State Beavers.

Oregon goes on the road today, but it's not going to matter.  Oregon gives p 16.5 to the Beavers, but they will win by more than 20.  Take Oregon for the mid afternoon game today.
