Zoo Keeper Killed by Lioness in South Africa

In South Africa, a zoo keeper was killed when a lioness pounced on him after security gates at Johannesburg Zoo's conservation farm were apparently left open.

Colleagues heard Joe Ramonetha, 63, screaming on Monday and rushed to help but it was too late, a spokeswoman said. He was declared dead on arrival at hospital.

Mr Ramonetha, who had four children, had worked at the zoo since 1970. He had either been feeding the 11-year-old lioness or cleaning out her enclosure at the farm in Parys, about 75 miles from Johannesburg, when the accident happened.

Tornados Rip Through the South

Things got a bit hairy in Metro Atlanta last night as the same line of storms that produced tornados and hail in Oklahoma and Mississippi held together and raced through Georgia.

Seven people were killed by storms in Alabama on Friday, bringing the total dead from a string of violent storms and tornadoes across the southern United States to at least 16, officials said on Saturday.

Storms, some severe, are expected Saturday from the Florida Panhandle through eastern and southern Georgia, the Carolinas and Virginia, according to weather.com. Fire danger continues over the dry southern plains.

Tornadoes kill about 70 people in the United States each year.

Here's some unbelievable video shot in Clinton, MS last night.
