Kindle Free Pick of the Week - Afraid

A thriller this week.

WELCOME TO SAFE HAVEN, POPULATION 907...

Nestled in the woods of Wisconsin, Safe Haven is miles from everything. With one road in and out, this is a town so peaceful it has never needed a full-time police force. Until now...

A helicopter has crashed on the outskirts of town and something terrible has been unleashed. A classified secret weapon programmed to kill anything that stands in its way. Now it’s headed for the nearest lights to do what it does best. Isolate. Terrorize. Annihilate.

Soon all phone lines are dead and the road is blocked. Safe Haven’s only chance for survival rests on the shoulders of an aging county sheriff. And as the body count rises, the sheriff realizes something even more terrifying - maybe death hasn’t come to his little town by accident...

Google Tablet to Compete With Kindle Fire

It looks like a Google tablet will be announced in the next week.

The Google tablet will look to compete with Amazon's Kindle Fire. According to Gizmodo, Nexus 7 will be a 7-inch tablet with competitive pricing -- $199 for an 8GB version and $249 for a 16GB version. However, other sources report more aggressive pricing, such as $159 or $177.

By comparison, an 8GB Kindle Fire costs $199. While the tablet was a hot item during the holiday season, its popularity has been trending downward. A new version of the slate has been rumored for months, but nothing has appeared on the horizon yet. If a new model is introduced, pricing on the old model could sink to $149.

The Nexus 7, which appears to be similar to a tablet displayed by Asus at this year's Consumer Electronic show, will reportedly also have a 7-inch display with a slightly higher resolution than Fire's -- 1280 by 800 compared to the Amazon product's 1024 by 600.

Target Stores to Stop Selling Kindles

Target stores are going "Nooks Only."

Target Corp., the second largest U.S. discount chain, will stop selling Amazon.com Inc.’s Kindle brand of e-readers and tablets after two years, while continuing to offer similar products from Apple Inc. and Barnes & Noble Inc.

The Nook brand of e-readers and tablets is made by Barnes & Noble and sold in Target’s stores and through its e-commerce site. Target, based in Minneapolis, also offers Apple’s iPad online and in stores. All Kindles and related products will be out of stores by the end of this month, a spokesperson said.

Kindle Free Pick of the Week: Taken

A quick, but thrilling read from Debra Lee.

From The Author:

Years ago a small child was taken from his home not far from where I live. The child was never found. His disappearance haunted me over the years, and still does. Hopefully someday I will know what happened to that little boy.

It breaks my heart every time I hear a news report about a missing child. So I suppose the disappearance of that little boy long ago and those heart breaking news stories is what drove me to write TAKEN.
