College Basketball Play of the Day for 3/16/12

Michigan

Here we go with the second day of the NCAA Tournament.

Michigan returns to the tournament this year and they have a very favorable matchup with Ohio.  Not Ohio St., just Ohio.

Michigan really impressed me late in the year and with the Wolverines only giving 5.5 points, this is a must play.

The Wolverines are 10-2 ATS in their last 12 games following a ATS loss and the Bobcats come into the game 0-4 ATS their last four games.  Ohio may be out of gas and Michigan is peaking.

Take Michigan today.

College Basketball Play of the Day for 2/12/12

Michigan

The best college basketball game on the slate for today has to be Illinois visiting Michigan.

This game features two of the upper echelon temas in the Big 10.

Michigan comes in at 18-7 and a perfect 13-0 at home.  Illinois, 16-8 faces a tough task as they try to get in the discussion for a NCAA tournament bid.

If Illinois was getting more points, I would like them.  They are only getting 6 points on the road and they aren't a great road team or a road dog.

Michigan is 19-7 ATS in their last 26 home games.

Take Michigan and give the 6.

No Fish Show Up For Fishing Tournament

Fishers in a Michigan charity ice fishing tournament had some bad luck over the weekend.

The Daily Press of Escanaba reports only one fish was caught by the more than 400 kids and adults participating in the Jig It Ice Fishing Extravaganza at Escanaba Yacht Harbor in the Upper Peninsula.

Big Brother Big Sisters of Delta County sponsored the fundraiser and Jason M. Pepin of Escanaba had the lone fishing success during the competition. The perch he caught weighed 4.5 ounces and netted a $3,000 first place prize.

The group's executive director Tanya Schuster says some people reported seeing fish swimming in the water, but they weren't biting.  Was it too cold, or were they using the wrong bait?

College Football Bowl Play of the Day: Sugar Bowl

After a day of exciting games on Jan. 2, we get the Sugar Bowl tonight and it could be another close one.

Michigan and Virginia Tech, with Michigan coming in a quite a roll.  They've put points up in bunches against every team recently other than Iowa.

But now they are playing a Frank Beamer team and he's had time to prepare.

Virginia Tech is getting 3 and Beamer has to relish being the underdog.

Look for Virginia Tech to be well prepared and to force turnovers and make a big play on special teams.

Take the Hokies and the 3 points in the Sugar Bowl.

113,411 Watch Outdoor Hockey

A world-record hockey crowd of 113,411 packed Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor on Saturday to watch the Wolverines roll to a 5-0 victory against archrival Michigan State.  Including this tool who thought he was at a Red Wings vs. Canadians tilt.

The turnout smashed the previous hockey record of 77,803 set at last the International Ice Hockey Federation world championships in Germany this spring. It's the largest crowd in the history of the venerable stadium, which routinely draws more than 100,000 fans for football.

It was the second time the teams have played outdoors -- they drew 74,544 at Michigan State's Spartan Stadium in 2001, setting a record for the largest hockey crowd at the time. This game featured temperatures in the low 40s and an 8 mph wind, producing a wind-chill factor that was just above freezing.

Michigan St. Spartans coach Rick Comley was thrilled with the scene, if not the outcome.

"The whole thing was great. If you can separate losing, you can't as a person involved in hockey experience anything better than what you experienced tonight," he said.
