Amazon Pick of the Week: To Where You Are

Valentine's Day reading.

Author and political advocate Jason Fisher will release his memoir and testament to true love, To Where You Are, on Valentine's Day 2022. This moving tribute to his late wife details Fisher’s story of discovering unconditional love, dealing with grief and trauma after losing his wife and soulmate unexpectedly, becoming a single parent of a child with a rare disability, and forging a new path forward.

“I spent many years summoning the emotional courage to write this book—our love story. It kept calling to me, and I never gave up because it was a story worth telling,” says Fisher. “The memories that I made with my wife, particularly in the short time we were together with our daughter as a family, are priceless to me.”

The heartache following his young wife’s sudden death led Fisher on a tumultuous journey as a widower and a single father to a 2-year-old daughter with special needs, requiring him to adapt to a world he had never imagined facing. Through his grief and pain, Fisher is reminded of “how special my wife, Mandi, was as a person. She was the brightest star in my universe and taught me so much about the meaning of unconditional love.

“Life is unpredictable and can give you incredibly difficult challenges at times,” he continues. “The road to healing after facing a crisis is rarely straight or paved smoothly. Surrounding yourself with people who amplify the best version of yourself and give you that confidence boost when you need it most is paramount.”

Kindle Pick of the Week: Swim, Bike, Bonk: Confessions of a Reluctant Triathlete

Just as George Plimpton had his proverbial cup of coffee in the NFL as the un-recruited and certainly unwanted fourth-string quarterback for the Detroit Lions, so, too, did Will McGough immerse himself in a sport he had no business trying. Like Plimpton, whose football folly turned into the bestselling Paper Lion, travel and outdoor writer McGough writes of his participation in, around, and over the course of one of the world's premier triathlons, the annual 140.6-mile Ironman in Tempe, Arizona.

McGough chronicles the Ironman’s history, his unorthodox training, the pageantry of the race weekend, and his attempt to finish the epic event. The narrative follows not just his race but also explores the cult and habits of the triathlete community, beginning with the first Ironman competition in Hawaii in 1978. This is a light-hearted, self-deprecating, and at times hilarious look at one man's attempt to conquer the ultimate endurance sport, with a conclusion that will surprise and delight both dedicated triathletes as well as strangers to the sport.

iPad Stands With a Speaker Part 1

I'm always looking at accessories for my iPad.  Most of what is out there is typical junk.  Every once in a while you come across an accessory that you can actually use and are proud to show off to a friend or family member.

This stand from GZ Tablet Stands fits all of the above.  It's finished wood with a carved out hole in the from to put an Altec Orbit speaker that you can get for $8-10 on Ebay.

The iPad will fit in slots with or without a protective cover on it.  You can lay it in horizontal or vertical whichever you choose.  For about $20, you can beat this stand.  Unfortunately, this sand with the speaker mount in the front is no longer available.  I can see it being hard to touch the iPad by reaching over the speaker, but if you are just looking for it to play music from Pandora or your own collecting this stand is ideal.

They are now making a similar stand where the speaker mounts in the rear.  I'll showcase that one in a couple days, but here's a preview pic of how it looks.

It's another great stand.  There were available on Ebay, but now they are on Etsy at

These stands are highly recommended.
