A Hula Hoop World Record

5,000 Thai contestants are celebrating after setting a world record for the most people dancing with hula hoops simultaneously in one place.

Guinness World Records adjudicator Seyda Subasi-Gemici said Tuesday that 4,483 people had swung hula hoops to dance music for seven minutes without interruption.

The event drew 5,000 participants to an open air stadium at Thammasat University, but 517 contestants dropped off after they failed to keep their hoops up.

The event, organized by the Public Health Ministry's Department of Health, was aimed at creating health awareness among Thais.

The previous world record was set in Taiwan in 2011, when 2,496 participants swung hula hoops in a continuous motion for 2 minutes.

There's a Tsunami Coming; Order Some KFC Now!

The KFC drive thru has long been a popular destination for those looking to pick up a quick meal to eat in a hurry or when emergency hunger hits.

But how about during a real emergency?

KFC has apologized for a Facebook message that urged people to rush home during Wednesday's tsunami scare in Thailand and order a bucket of chicken.

As people were being urged to evacuate beach areas, the company posted: "Let's hurry home and follow the earthquake news. And don't forget to order your favourite KFC menu."

It prompted hundreds of angry comments on Thai websites denouncing the company as insensitive, selfish and greedy.

By today the message was removed and replaced by one that asked for forgiveness.

If anyone is heading to my local KFC, I'll have some "extra crispy."

Thailand Experiencing Worst Flooding in 50 Years

Bangkok authorities insisted on Tuesday they could not ease the flooding crisis for everyone in the city, as anger and misery grew in inundated areas over the lack of assistance from officials.

Although inner areas of the capital have remained dry, the situation is critical in several outlying districts, where residents have protested that their homes are being sacrificed to save central parts of the city.
Thailand's worst flooding in decades, triggered by unusually heavy monsoon rains that began three months ago, have claimed more than 380 lives and affected the homes and livelihoods of millions across the country.

Central Bangkok has largely been spared from major inundation after barriers along Bangkok's swollen Chao Phraya River prevented a major overflow during a spring high tide over the weekend.

But in districts such as western Bang Phlat, just five kilometres from downtown Bangkok, homes were badly damaged and streets turned into deep canals of filthy water, with no official help in sight.
