Limpert Tech "SullyCast" on Radio 105.7 and iHeartRadio - SVG College Sports Summit

Thursday and Friday, the SVG College Sports Summit was in town at the OMNI CNN Center and Rick is an attendee every year. The Summit focuses on everything tech-related that colleges around the country use to broadcast their athletic events.

And here is what he saw:

1. Storytelling

Branding and telling your story is the job of these college broadcast teams when it comes to sports teams. Fans want more, sponsors want exposure and the teams want to win.

2. Social Streamng and a The Facebook Video Boot Camp

Facebook has completely changed the game for sports video production and distribution and its only at the SVG College Sports Summit where you can sit down with Facebook minds and industry colleagues to take your work on this exciting platform to new heights.

3. The Largest Technology Showcase In the Summit’s History
- and the theme here is the tech is becoming more affordable.

A chance to check out some of the coolest sports-production technology bult just for your needs? You will want to make sure to spend some time among the 48 tabletop exhibits that will feature all kinds of goodies for all parts of the sports video production ecosystem.

This year’s exhibitors are AJT Systems, AT&T, Avid, Blackmagic Design, BlueFrame Technology, Calrec/DiGiCo, Canon, ChyronHego, Clear-Com, Comrex, Convergent Design, Creative Dimersions, Digicaster/Digital Comm Link, Evertz, EVS, FX Design Group, Globecomm, Grass Vallet, Harman, Ikegami, Imagine Communications, Integrated Microwave Technologies, Joseph Electronics, JVCKENWOOD, LiveU, LTN Global Communications, Markertek, Multidyne, Neutrik, NewTek, Niles Media Group, Panasonic, Quantum, Riedel Communications, Ross Video, SimplyLive, Sony, SportZcast, Telescope, Telos Alliance, Teradek, TV Graphics, TVU Networks, Vizrt, Wave Central/CP Communications, and Wesco.

4. Camera and Lens Technology

4k cameras are becoming more the norm, while sometimes lenses are kept for years and years.

5. Videoboards.... not Scoreboards

The new age of digital may be shaking up the college sports media world but the one area that has remained strong and constant for collegiate sports video production professionals over the years is fan engagement in venue. At the SVG College Sports Summit, attendees will be treated to a panel conversation and a special workshop track dedicated to everything in-venue video and the marketing goals behind it.

Boards and I mean, multiple displays around the stadium or arena are doing a lot more than showing the score.

*** Don't forget!  Hurricane Season Started this Week

June 1 marks the official start of the Atlantic Hurricane Season, which continues through November 30. In an average season, based on data from 1981 to 2010, 12 named tropical cyclones should be expected, with 6 of these reaching hurricane intensity, and 3 developing into major hurricanes.

“This outlook is a general guide to the expected overall activity during the upcoming hurricane season,” the National Weather Service (NWS) Climate Prediction Center says. “It is not a seasonal hurricane landfall forecast, and it does not predict levels of activity for any particular location.”

The official NOAA 2017 Atlantic hurricane season outlook indicates a 45% probability of an above-normal season, a 35% probability of a near-normal season, and a 20% probability of a below-normal season. This outlook calls for between 11 and 17 named storms. This already includes the pre-season Tropical Storm Arlene, which occurred in April. Of these named storms, between five and nine of them could reach hurricane intensity, with between two and four of these becoming major hurricanes — Category 3 or above.
