Limpert Tech "SullyCast" on ALT 105.7 and iHeartRadio - Labor Day Weekend and Football Watching

They say that baseball is our National Pastime, but really it's watching all sports that has become the most popular thing to do in this country.

This is the first big weekend of college football, chances are that you will be watching some on TV.

Rick and Sully discuss some new tech that enhances our watching of football.

1.  SlingTV and College Football - cord cutters can still enjoy college football
www.sling.com

With a Sling Orange subscription for only $25 per month, customers can get access to ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN3 and ACC Network Extra. By adding Sports Extra to Sling Orange for an extra $5 per month, customers can also watch games on SEC Network, SEC Network+, ESPNU, ESPNEWS, ESPN Goal Line and Stadium. And, Sling Orange’s Sports Extra offers all six Pac-12 Networks, making Sling the most affordable option for Pac-12 fans to watch every single conference game.

Sling TV + OTA: By pairing Sling TV with an OTA antenna, customers can access football games on local ABC, CBS, NBC and FOX stations in HD at no cost. For more information on special antenna offers from Sling TV, visit our OTA blog.

Sling Orange + Sling Blue: For even more football, customers who subscribe to both Sling Orange and Sling Blue services for $40 per month (a $10 discount), can watch Big 12, Pac-12 and more conference games on FS1, FS2, FOX (select markets) and NBC (select markets), plus NFL games.

2. Pace of Play said to improve

So don't spend too much time in the kitchen or bathroom

The college rules committee continues to try to reduce the overall length of games by gaining efficiency during "dead" times. This year, the rules have changed to shorten the time between the touchdown and the extra point, and between the kickoff return and the first play from scrimmage. In both cases, the 40-second play clock will start as soon as the ball is dead. Instead of pausing for one minute between the touchdown and the extra point, the 40-second play clock will begin counting down as soon as the touchdown is scored. Similarly, when the ball becomes dead after the kickoff the 40-second play clock will start. This should have a significant impact on the amount of time it takes to "manage" a touchdown and the ensuing kickoff

3. More "Virtual Advertising"

This is a technology that virtually substitutes the advertising on perimeter boards around the edge of the field or stadium.  For the first time, the technology is available on LED perimeter boards.

While the technology makes no difference to what fans see in the stadium, virtual advertising images digitally inserted on pitchside advertising boards will be unique to their city or region.
This allows teams to change advertising that is most relevant to the respective TV audience, whether they are watching from their armchair in Los Angeles, Beijing, Sydney or any other market.

4. The Wait for 5G - maybe in 2019...

5G networks are expected to be commercially available in 2019, delivering faster speeds, greater capacity and ultra-low latency. This will mean better connectivity for fans in a soccer stadium in the future as well as new experiences.

5. Terra Kids Binoculars
Give the kids a Bird’s Eye View!

Rick's Tip: 6.  Stay up late for the Hawaii Game

Whatever happens, Saturday usually doesn’t end until Hawaii’s done.
The team that’s indirectly responsible for weird green uniforms is also directly responsible for keeping college football fans across the country on their couches for about 15 straight hours.
Thank you, Rainbow Warriors.
