Limpert Tech "SullyCast" on ALT 105.7 and iHeartRadio 6/29/19 - Omni Barton Creek Resort & Spa

Rick spent last weekend in Austin, TX, at the Grand  Re-opening of the Omni Barton Creek Resort & Spa in Austin, TX. This picturesque resort in the Texas Hill Country.

Omni Barton Creek underwent an extensive $150 million renovation and expansion that began in November 2017. From its opening 30 years ago to becoming the premier Texas Hill Country destination, this marks a major milestone in the property's history. The resort attracts local and out-of-town visitors to a refined, but relaxed retreat, embodying the spirit of the region.

Website: https://www.omnihotels.com/hotels/austin-barton-creek

Have a listen:

1. About the resort

One of the most sought after resort destinations in Texas, Omni Barton Creek Resort & Spa stands tall among picturesque hill country views matched in vastness only by its storied history.

Opening as a country club in the mid-1980s, the vision of the future development in the rolling hill country came together with the aid of former Texas Gov. John Connolly and former Lieutenant Governor Ben Barnes. The resort’s doors officially opened September 5, 1987, with former First Lady of the United States Lady Bird Johnson in attendance for the grand opening ceremony.

Over the years, four championship golf courses were introduced, one designed by Austin native Ben Crenshaw, another by Arnold Palmer and two by Tom Fazio, earning the property its current reputation as one of the best golf resorts in the state.

Along the way, the resort has hosted a variety of notable events and tournaments, including the Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf  (Champions Tour) Tournament, and many influential guests ranging from former U.S Presidents (#41 President Bush and #43 President Bush) to musical great Willie Nelson to Heisman winner Earl Campbell.

Former University of Texas legendary football coach Darrel Royal was a founding member of Barton Creek Country Club and frequently golfed Barton Creek’s courses; the resort’s only ballroom is named in his honor.
While the face of the resort has changed over time to meet guest needs, the resort’s central purpose and mission remains steadfast: to provide unrivaled, Texas-sized hospitality to each and every guest that walks its storied hallways.

Today is an exciting new chapter for Omni Barton Creek Resort & Spa with our $150 million renovation in conjunction with the resort’s 30th anniversary.

2. A new arrival and lobby experience

Attention to detail here is the key. Guests are welcomed to the property with special artwork.
Love the one that resembles "fire flies" behind the guest check in.
The lobby is also spacious and bright, makes great use of windows to get the best views.

3. 493 freshly-designed guestrooms and suites

Rooms and suites all upgraded. Lots of outlets to plug in all your devices. Great views of the hills, fast Wi-Fi.

Rooms feel like an apartment home!

What else could you want?

4. Brand new Mokara Spa with a private adults-only rooftop pool and light cuisine from the Spa Creek Café

Facials, body treatments, massages and salon services.

Mokara Spa is very inviting and the staff is so friendly.

Upon arrival, we will provide with you with a plush robe and spa slippers. Relax before or after your services in our gender-separate relaxation lounges, steam rooms, dry saunas and whirlpools. Please bring a swimsuit for our coed rooftop pool deck. Spa facilities are only available to spa guests on the day of their treatments. Resort guests may purchase a day pass for a $50 fee, subject to availability.

5. A Multi-tiered poolscape with an infinity edge pool featuring sweeping Texas Hill Country views

Barton Creek's new multi-tiered pool deck features an infinity pool overlooking the 18th green of the Fazio Foothills golf course. An Austin oasis, guests can relax poolside in several hot tubs and private cabanas.

6. A redesigned tennis complex featuring 10 courts with LED lighting for evening play

7. Golf Courses

Recognized as one of the best golf resorts in the Southwest by GOLF Magazine and featuring top-ranked courses by Golf Digest, Omni Barton Creek Resort & Spa is one of the most sought-after golf destinations in Texas. Just 10 miles northwest of downtown Austin, our resort blends the best of the capital city with the beauty of Texas Hill Country.

Limpert Tech "SullyCast" on ALT 105.7 and iHeartRadio - 3/16/19 Rick on Florida's Historic Coast

Rick spent most of last week on what is called Florida's Historic Coast.

Florida's Historic Coast includes St. Augustine, Ponte Vedra and the Beaches.
It's a busy time of the year just south of Jacksonville.... The Player Championship golf, Spring Break actvities and Bike Week!

Sully is involved in St. Baldrick's activities this weekend, so here's Rick!

1.  Florida's Historic Coast
www.floridashistoriccoast.com

A visit to St. Augustine, Ponte Vedra Beach and The Beaches is more than just a getaway. It's a vacation close enough to home but different enough to make you feel a world away. Experience old-world charm, flavorful dining, art and culture, and an abundance of entertainment after dark. There's so much to do, you're going to want to stay one more day.

2. Tech at the 2019 Players Championship

NBC Sports’ Emmy-nominated live tournament team will unveil a new graphics package customized specifically for THE PLAYERS, featuring the Championship’s signature blue, gold, and white color scheme. Coverage also will implement new original theme music for the event, along with several popular NBC Sports’ production enhancements viewers are accustomed to seeing at TPC Sawgrass, including:

Eight high-definition cameras covering every conceivable angle of the par-3, 17th hole, including a microscopic lens embedded in the lip of the tiny bunker fronting the green.

The cable-suspended “FlyCam” system, providing unique vantage points through an ability to fly over the body of water between the par-5, 16th and 17th hole greens.
A camera crane positioned 150 feet in the air offering aerial views of Holes 16-18, and one on the island adjacent to the 17th green, capturing reactions of those playing No. 17.
Wind-direction technology to track conditions throughout the golf course.

3. World Golf Hall of Fame
Located in St. Augustine!

www.worldgolfhalloffame.org

Lots of exhibits. Incorporating technology and a Golfzon golf simulator for visitors to hit balls.
The World Golf Hall of Fame is located at World Golf Village near St. Augustine, Florida, in the United States, and it is unusual among sports halls of fame in that a single site honors both men and women. It is supported by a consortium of 26 golf organizations from all over the world.

 4. St. Augustine Alligator Farm Zoological Park
https://www.alligatorfarm.com

The St. Augustine Alligator Farm Zoological Park is one of Florida's oldest continuously running attractions, having opened on May 20, 1893. Not only does it have 24 species of crocodilians, but also a variety of other reptiles, mammals and birds, as well as exhibits, animal performances and educational demonstrations.
- Conservation, research, Zip Lines

5. St. Augustine Distillery - Ice Plant

- Distilleries are popping up in cities all over the country, but St. Augustine has some of the best.
The St. Augustine Distillery even has a great restaurant located right within its walls.
Inspired by the historical period of the early 20th century, our idea is to reintroduce our guests to a time where the experience of having a cocktail and a bite to eat was both healthful and enjoyable. Focused on the art and craft of mixing exceptional local ingredients in precise measurements to create perfect and unique flavor profiles.

Fresh, house-pressed juices and a wide assortment of bitters and specially developed syrups, result in stunning cocktails. Attention is paid to the smallest of details with three different kinds of ice, including a nod to the building’s original use as an Ice Plant, with a 300lb block of ice and custom cubes.
The farm to table restaurant and bar is open for lunch and dinner. Serving grass-fed beef and burgers, local seafood, with vegetarian options and daily specials.

The original “Ice Plant” building dates back to 1927, an experience like no other in Florida. It is complete with the original bridge crane on rails overhead the bar. The crane was used to pick up huge blocks of ice to then be broken down and sold to local customers and the shrimp boats. We wanted to restore the feeling of walking into an old factory.

6. Worth a mention...  The new March Madness Live 19 app is out, just in time for all the basketball to be played over the next month.

Limpert Tech "SullyCast" on ALT 105.7 and iHeartRadio 1/26/19 - PGA Show Tech

Like so many, Rick is ready for warmer and dryer weather and that means Golf Season!

The 66th PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando, Jan. 22-25, 2019, welcomed more than 40,000 golf industry professionals from around the world to discover the newest trends and technology from some 1,000 exhibiting golf companies and brands.  The industry’s annual “MAJOR of Golf Business” features a packed four-day schedule beginning with PGA Show Demo Day, Jan. 22, at Orange County National Golf Center (OCN), and continuing at the Orange County Convention Center.

Lots of tech on display:

What was at the show?
Rick and Sully discuss:

1.   Mizuno's announcements
www.mizunousa.com

Mizuno's North American headquarters is here in Metro Atlanta.

Announced at the PGA Merchandise Show, Mizuno unveiled its first ever globally launched golf ball, the RB Tour and RB Tour X, as well as an addition to the JPX919 iron line and its latest hybrid.

Created after 12 years of wind tunnel testing at Mizuno’s MT test facility, a new Cone (C) dimple adds all-new wind performance to the trademark soft feel and feedback of Mizuno’s previous Tour golf ball models in the four-piece RB Tour and RB Tour X.

2. Callaway Apparel - SWING TECH
www.callawayapparel.com

Callaway remains one of the biggest names in golf.
SWING TECH™  is their new technology that fuses athletic performance with classic fit and game-changing innovation. New construction and materials provide noticeably less restriction and more stretch to maximize your range of motion on every swing.
SWING TECH™ is featured in a variety of products in the 2019 Callaway line including:

Polos
Golfers can count on greater flexibility through the shoulders through a combination of a all-new seam construction and pliable blended materials. Taking a new approach on seam construction, our polos have taken the performance attributes of an athletic raglan sleeve and restructured it so that golfers still get the authentic golf styling that they know and love.  Featured SWING TECH polos include the all-new SWING TECH gingham polo, SWING TECH jacquard polo and SWING TECH fine line color block polo.

Shorts
The SWING TECH ergo shorts feature the all-new ergo seam and refined active waistband to provide more freedom of movement from the waist down. With the ergo seam, we have eliminated the need for side seams that limit flexibility where you need it most, giving you greater stretch and lighter feel.

Outerwear
Not only featured in polos, SWING TECH is also prominently incorporated into outerwear with a modified construction design, flexible materials and strategically placed stretch panels to help improve your movement, regardless of the conditions, making them the perfect complementary piece. Brand new in 2019, the all-new SWING TECH Cooling+ 1/4 zip pullover provides golfers with the performance of SWING TECH construction as well as cutting edge fabric that promotes rapid moisture wicking and superior sun protection.

3. Club Car Tempo Walk
www.clubcar.com

Meet Club Car’s Tempo™ Walk, a new hands-free robotic golf caddie unit, provides enjoyment for golfers who walk the course. The wireless, autonomous caddie is designed to enhance the golf experience and also foster health and wellness.

For fitness minded golfers and those who enjoy walking, Tempo Walk delivers a caddie-like experience different than traditional push carts, electric or otherwise. For course operators, it’s a fresh, functional and environmentally friendly cart option and experience to offer customers.
Blending tradition and technology similar to Club Car’s recently launched Tempo™ Connect golf car, Tempo Walk’s stylish hands-free golf caddie unit makes walking the course pleasant and easier than other push carts.

It offers state-of-the-art wireless technology including GPS yardage and hands-free remote control to maneuver easily around the course.

Constructed with a durable aluminum frame, Tempo Walk contains a lithium ion battery which holds a 36-hole charge. It moves up to seven mph and weighs 95 pounds. Additional technology features include a USB port and touchscreen tablet with GPS yardage. Traditional golf car offerings – a cup holder, cooler, divot repair and sand bottle, are also included. With a compact frame size, four Tempo Walk golf caddies can fit into the space of one golf car, another benefit for course operators.

4. PhiGolf  golf smartstick
https://www.phigolf.info/

I also saw this at CES.

Owning a simulator is a dream for golfers. It’s also a pricy dream, with most costing in the $40,000 range. But those on a budget don’t have to be denied the pleasures of such an experience thanks to PhiGolf.
PhiGolf is a smart stick that serves as the golf club, capable of connecting to a smartphone or TV. Golfers can not just use this for entertainment (there are several game modes, including 18 holes, match play, driving range or closest-to-the-pin), but the stick also provides data and analysis of your swing and stroke. All which can be yours for $249.

5. FlightScope Introduces World’s First Environmental Optimizer Feature to its X3 Tracking Radar
www.flightscope.com

Leader in sports technology unveils first-of-its-kind feature, allowing golfers to practice for various environmental conditions

FlightScope, a world leader in the development and manufacturing of 3D Doppler tracking radars for sports, announces today the launch of the world’s first Environmental Optimizer (FS|EO), giving golfers a new way to analyze, practice and improve their game. FlightScope’s new innovative component for the X3 tracking radar gives users the ability to configure environmental conditions, without physically changing locations – meaning golfers who typically practice in flat, low altitudes, and vice versa, can now practice smarter and see how their shot would match up against an entirely different environmental climate.

6.   Sun Mountain's FinnCycle
www.sunmountain.com

Forget golf and push carts, you can now use a motor bike to get around the course,
It travels at 15 miles per hour, the same speed that a golf cart travels. Your clubs are held in place in the middle of the bike with supports and straps. It will fit pretty much any bag other than a staff bag; Sun Mountain’s biggest cart bag fits. Rest your feet on the footbeds, and control your speed with a small thumb lever on the right handlebar. Both the right and left handlebars have breaks, and there’s kickstand to keep the bike upright while you’re hitting.

Besides being fun to ride around on, FinnCycle’s benefits extend to pace of play. In testing, the team at Sun Mountain found it easy to play 18 holes in under two hours. Obviously, that’s reliant on not having to wait on play in front of you. Right now, it’s not available for individual consumers to buy. They’re selling to golf courses as well as fleet sales.

Limpert Tech "SullyCast" on ALT 105.7 - New Golf Tech

A wrap up of St. Patrick's and St. Baldrick's

Then on to some new golf tech  and a bunch to get through this week...

Rick will be hitting the links this spring. Here's some of what new he'll be using.

Have a listen to Rick and Sully:

1. A New Fitted Driver from Club Champion

www.clubchampiongolf.com

Custom fit golf clubs from the experts...
Rick recently got fitted for a new driver at Club Champion.
When it comes to getting fit for golf clubs, in order to do it absolutely to the best of your ability, you need to look for four key things:

Demo Equipment:  How many brands of heads and shafts can you hit during your fitting session and even better, can you mix and match them.  At the end of the day, the more choices you have, the better.  If you’re only getting fit with one or two fitting carts and/or demo bags, you are not getting even close to the breadth of equipment combinations available today.

Technology:  A launch monitor is a MUST, but which one is important as well.  Many are good, but Trackman is still the de facto launch monitor the pros trust and so should you.  For putting analysis, the Science and Motion PuttLab is still second to none in terms of the data it delivers to help you decide which type of putter is best for you.

Your Fitter:  If you think reading a launch monitor and saying “You’re spin is too high, try this” is all there is to club fitting, think again.  There is an art to the science behind all of this, and if your fitter hasn’t been fitting for long or hasn’t seen a couple hundred people, you’re taking your chances that your fitter truly knows what he’s doing.

Club Building:  At the end of all of this, if you have a perfect 3 for 3 score from above but your clubs are built in the ‘custom shop’ of a manufacturer (ie assembly line) your odds of getting the clubs built exactly to your specifications decrease considerably.  No two sets should be alike, and you need someone to get those lofts, lies, lengths and swing weights dead-on to take full advantage of any club fitting process.
According to Golf Digest, 8 out of 9 Club Champion customers who upgraded to custom-fit clubs added an average of 21 yards off the tee and lowered their scores by as much as 6 strokes per round. In fact, nearly 100% of Club Champion Customers report they were satisfied.

2. Cobra Irons - Smart Golf Clubs

4. Shot Scope V2 - Performance Tracking Watch
www.shotscope.com

Combining front/middle/back GPS with Shot Scope’s industry-leading Performance Tracking. V2 fills a significant gap in the market. V2 is now available.

Golfers have long sought a device that combined GPS yardages and fully automatic performance tracking; Shot Scope’s in-house engineers have developed a product that meets the needs of the modern golfer while retaining the company’s trademark automatic club recognition technology and detailed performance statistics.
V2 has three modes to suit the golfer’s playing requirements, GPS, PRO and GPS+TRACK, each mode has been designed for ultimate flexibility. In both GPS and GPS+TRACK modes, the LCD screen displays distances to the front, middle and back of the green from the golfer’s real-time position using SMART GPS. Distances to hazards will be released in a software update later in the year.
Performance Tracking is activated in both PRO and GPS+TRACK modes. The watch works in the background to collect over 100 Tour-level statistics, broken down into five areas: clubs, tee shots, approaches, short game and putting. Performance statistics of this calibre have previously only been available to Tour players. No manual input or phone-use is required.
V2 uses Shot Scope’s proprietary course mapping data which is compiled and quality checked by a team of elite golfers.

5. Club Car is celebrating 60 years in the industry in 2018.
http://www.clubcar.com/us/en/home.html

As far as golf carts go, Club Car is hard to beat...

Club Car was founded in the early to mid 1950s in Dallas, Texas.   Bill Stevens bought the rights to the golf car and moved the manufacturing facility to Augusta, Georgia, where he lived.
Stevens eventually sold out to Johns Manville Company and then in 1978 Club Car was sold again to a group of investors that included Billy Dolan and seven other top managers from E-Z-GO.  They redesigned the golf car and in 1982 introduced the DS model which is still familiar today. They took a small company from back in the pack to become a world class manufacturer of golf and utility vehicles.

They are also launching Tempo ConnectTM, a stylish new golf car with enhanced technology including Visage Fleet Management.
Tempo Connect’s enhanced ride is designed with automotive styling and connected technology. Club Car’s proven engineering, industry-leading durability and reliable comfort are evident with a new sleek front cowl, rust-proof aluminum frame, new alloy wheels, premium comfort seats and a spacious dashboard.
