App of the Week:

Zip, the Question Answer App  for iOS or Android

You put in a question with two possible answers and then the question is crowdsourced.
You can then answer other's questions as well. It's fun, addictive and informative.
The original idea behind Zip, the Question Answer App, was to settle arguments, and now, it’s also introducing a whole new, simple and proprietary way to communicate with media outlets (i.e. TV, radio, print, digital, etc.)

The rapidly growing interactive app is revolutionizing everyday conversation and mass polling.

Wireless Wednesday for 5/13/15: Tech in Real Estate and Home Buying

If you haven't been out home shopping, the real estate market is once again starting to boom.

Rick and his wife Lindsay know that all too well, as they have been out doing a little home shopping and comparison pricing.

Technology has made a big impact on the real estate and home buying/selling industry...
Rick and Mitch take a look...

1. Real Estate has gone "Mobile"

Apps are key in every industry, but even more important in real estate where home buyers and sellers want to have all the information they need at their fingertips.

Example of apps:
a. Redfin - Hunt for a home sans an agent with Redfin's multiple-listing-service-powered real estate app. This free app gives you the same information used by real estate agents - on-the-go, like photos, full details, property history and agent notes.
b. Realtor.com - Find your perfect home. New listings and agents. Also info on rentals.

2.  iBeacon technology

iBeacon technology uses Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) signals that allow for instant communication between devices over relatively long distances without an active Internet connection.
- Information rich for sale signs
- Guided property tours
- Digital handshake - might be able to close deals right on smartphones
*Expect iBeacon technology to keep growing

3. Analytics coming to real estate

Agents will be able to measure ROI more accurately.

4.  Apps like Zillow and Trulia

These two apps dominate consumer searches. in fact, Zillow bought Trulia, but both remain open and have apps that set the standard for what consumers use.

5. Drones

If you see a drone flying over a home that has been newly listed for sale, it's for good reason. Drones are being used by those in the real estate industry to photograph homes for listings. They can also be used to inspect roofs and gutters.

** App of the Week**

CalcsFree
Free

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/calcsfree-mortgage-calculators/id320858775?mt=8

"Aside from the usual - Realtor.com, Trulia, Zillow - I've really found CalcsFree to be helpful," says Dan Vollmer, a full-time real estate agent. "If I'm showing homes to prospective buyers and they want to know how much their mortgage will be, I can plug in an offer amount, the taxes and insurance payments, even HOA fees and mortgage insurance." Vollmer says the free mortgage calculator app is easy to use and provides more than just a standard principal-and-interest payment calculation.

Description

The most comprehensive, best selling Mortgage Calculator App in the App Store with 500,000 users. Three calculators in ONE APP! Advanced analysis on the go.

Wireless Wednesday for 7/9/14: With Mitch Evans - Free Apps That Can Help You Decorate

Rick and Mitch are back with "Wireless Wednesday" after an extended break.

**Topics**

Rick has come up with a list of apps that will help you decorate your space, with the help of CityPrintsMapArt.com .And the best part - they are all FREE!

Have a listen:

Houzz

Why this is awesome: Houzz is the best source for interior design inspiration that I've seen and it was a big help when we moved into our new place. You can search great looking images by keyword, room or style. Save the images to folders for your reference.

Pinterest

Why this is great for decorators: I'm sure you all have heard of Pinterest by now and the app makes finding inspiration on the go super easy. While you're there, make sure to share a killer picture of your City Print and make your followers jealous! Repin away, and get the word out.

Color Snap

Why this is awesome: Color Snap allows you to sample colors from any image and find matching paint colors. Color Snap matches to Sherwin-Williams paints, but there also a version for Behr and Benjamin Moore paints (but I don't think the apps are as good). We use this app when pulling color schemes out of photos to match customer's interiors.

Photo Measures Light

This app let's you take a picture of your interiors and draw the measurements. You'll always have your room dimensions in your pocket.

SnapShop

Why this is awesome: This app helps people like me who have difficulty envisioning how furniture will look in your room. Drag and drop furniture from popular stores into camera captures of you room. Scroll through furniture options and colors to make buying decisions without the worry of what it will actually look like in your space.

App of the Week

DinnerTime

This app is geared toward managing smartphone-obsessed kids' online time, letting parents remotely set limitations or impose blackouts on their kids' phones and tablets from their own devices or send them reminders to do their homework, go to bed or come to the table for dinner. Will kids hate it? Almost definitely. But this one's pretty much guaranteed to be a hit with anyone who finds themselves saying "Will you please put that down?" about a thousand times a day. (Free on iTunes or Google Play)

Wireless Wednesday for 4/16/14: With Mitch Evans - Gadgets and Tech to Fight the Pollen

* TOPICS -

Rick got to play golf on 15 inch cups on Monday with Sergio Garcia and Justin Rose at Reynolds Plantation... how did it go

and...

Are you coughing, wheezing and sneezing?

It's the pollen season and there are some high tech ways you can combat that pollen.  Some may be ridiculous, some may be keepers.

Have a listen:

_______________________________________________________________________
1.  USB Pollen Blocker - Do you have to work outside this time of the year?

A filtered, ventilated head covering developed by Thanko, a small firm based in the capital's electronics mecca of Akihabara. The Pollen Blocker looks like a bright yellow hazmat hood and can completely seal off the heads of hay fever sufferers from the ambient pollen.

The filtered fan in the baseball cap-style brim is powered by USB. Just hook it up to a laptop or mobile device and you'll have a pollen free head space as long as your battery lasts.
The Pollen Blocker, recently launched for US$39.80

2.  SHELL HOME AIR PURIFIER SYSTEM

If the pollens and dist are getting into your home...
This unusual looking air-purifier uses water and essential oils to clean the air, and makers claim it removes contaminants such as allergens. Also humidifies the room to dampen down dust in which allergens thrive.

3.  Furminator - www.furminator.com   $20-$30

Pets bring pollen allergens and more into the house in their fur. This tool claims to remove hairs from the top coat of a dog or cat by 90 per cent which would cut down the allergens considerably.

4. LLOYDSPHARMACY ALLERGY RELIEVER

If you have been exposed to a great deal of pollen...
An iPod-shaped device with two prongs that are inserted into the nostrils and beam two different wavelengths of red light  -  one promoting increased blood flow to the nasal passages, the second to suppress the cells that release histamine thus reducing inflammation.

5.  Pollen.com

This website offers a wealth of interactive, personalized information on pollen counts. It boasts a free Allergy Alert application for iPhone and iPod Touch users that supplies one- or four-day forecasts in four categories: allergies (i.e., pollen), cold and cough, asthma, and ultraviolet rays. A sister site, PollenWidgets.com, also offers widgets for daily or four-day pollen counts available through Yahoo Widgets or Google Gadgets.

App of the Week  - Allergy Alert app  - Free

Allergy Alert keeps the allergy-suffering public up to date with the nation's leading pollen and allergy forecast from Pollen.com. Also stay informed of other environment factors like asthma index, ultraviolet, and cold and cough.
