NASCAR Driver Given Breathalyzer at Track

NASCAR driver AJ Allmendinger was given a breath test before he took to the track at Talladega Superspeedway on Friday.

It's because Allmendinger was arrested by Mooresville (N.C.) police early Thursday morning. He was placed on probation by NASCAR through the end of the season.  He blew a .08 on the Thursday Night breath test after leaving a bar.

Allmendinger, who is one of the bright young stars in NASCAR drives for Richard Petty Motorsports.  Allmendinger vows to get back the trust of fans, sponsors, and his team.

Allmendinger passed the breath test Friday at the track.  These is no word on whether he had to stand on one leg and say the alphabet backwards or try to walk a straight line.

Who's to Blame for Candy Corn?

Apparently the man's name is George Renninger and he ran the Wunderlee Candy Company in the 1800's.  He purposely made the three colors on the candy corn look like real North American corn.  Made with sugar, corn syrup, and honey; each serving (about 24 pieces) has about 140 calories in it.

The sight of candy corn send me running the other way, but I'm apparently in the minority.  20 million pounds of candy corn are sold each year.

Today, October 30th, happens to be National Candy Corn Day.  The past couple years I've noticed candy corn in Christmas and Easter colors and sold during those holidays.  Can it be long before we have red, white and blue candy corn to eat watching our Fourth of July fireworks?

Random House bows down to NBA

Tim Donaghy, the embattled former NBA referee was all set to have his book published by a division of Random House, until the NBA stuck its nose into the fray.  The NBA threatened to sue Random House and mysteriously the book will no longer be published.

Exerts of the book have since leaked and they are scathing.  In the book Donaghy describes disturbing actions involving the refs.  Donaghy is finishing up his sentence for passing along inside information on NBA games, including games he was working.  It is in the NBA's interest not to have this book published.

Now that Random House is out, Donaghy is shopping his book to other publishing houses.  He may even decide to self-publish.  The bottom line is the book will get published and we will all get to read the juicy details contained in it.  The NBA needs to back off, we'll consider the source; that is who authored the book and make our own determinations on what tales he has told.  I'm sure it won't surprise us NBA fans, but it will be interesting to finally read.

Use Brizzly to enhance your Twitter experience

Sick of searching through mounds and mounds of third party apps that are supposed to make Twitter easier to use?  Look no further than Brizzly.

Brizzy launched in July 2009, by Thing Labs, Inc.  It is still currently in Beta, and you need an invitation to join, but they aren't that difficult to come by.  Brizzly, which also works with Facebook allows inline media like photos, videos, and maps to show up in the direct feed.  It also will allow you to put followers in groups, and to mute ones you don't want to hear from right now.

Brizzly to me. makes the Twitter experience much more enjoyable. One other plus, have you ever looked at the trending topics on Twitter and thought "huh"?  Well, on Brizzly the trending topics have a "why?" link next to the topic and clicking it will tell you what it's a trending topic.

You can get a Brizzly invite from people currently using Brizzly, or on other various websites.  Try it, and Brizzly will become your Twitter.
