Who's to Blame for Candy Corn?

Apparently the man's name is George Renninger and he ran the Wunderlee Candy Company in the 1800's.  He purposely made the three colors on the candy corn look like real North American corn.  Made with sugar, corn syrup, and honey; each serving (about 24 pieces) has about 140 calories in it.

The sight of candy corn send me running the other way, but I'm apparently in the minority.  20 million pounds of candy corn are sold each year.

Today, October 30th, happens to be National Candy Corn Day.  The past couple years I've noticed candy corn in Christmas and Easter colors and sold during those holidays.  Can it be long before we have red, white and blue candy corn to eat watching our Fourth of July fireworks?
