83-year old Flight Attendant Finally Retires

Eighty-three-year-old Ron Akana finished his career as the longest-serving flight attendant for any U.S. carrier over the weekend on a United Airlines flight from Denver to Kauai.

The Honolulu-born Akana says he's been told he will go into the Guiness Book of World Records in October.

After returning home to Colorado, he spent Tuesday writing thank you notes for the all well-wishes from passengers who heard about his longevity through an in-flight announcement.

He plans to spend the rest of his retirement traveling.

Akana decided to retire when he was offered a buyout.

He was one of the first male flight attendants at United.

Isaac Now a Cat 1 Hurricane

Isaac became a hurricane Tuesday that could flood the coasts of four states with storm surge and heavy rains on its way to New Orleans, where residents hunkered down behind levees fortified after Katrina struck seven years ago this very week.

Shelters were open for those who chose to stay, but there are no mass evacuations.

New Orleans Readies For Isaac

The National Hurricane Center is forecasting Tropical Storm Isaac to reach hurricane strength and hit around New Orleans late Tuesday or early Wednesday.  It's a slow moving tropical storm at this point, and it's going to bring a lot of rain to the Crescent City.
