Iowa Woman Running Barefoot Across America for Charity

An Iowa woman is running barefoot across the United States to raise money to provide shoes for needy children.

Rae Heim, 18, of Carroll, started her cross-country trek in Boston in April and hopes to reach Huntington Beach, Calif., in October.

She is doing this to raise money to buy shoes for kids that don't have them.

Some interesting facts:

300 million children go without shoes, daily.

Your donations will make a difference:

55% of the donations stay in the USA
The rest are distributed to 128 other countries.
Your $1 donation = 1 pair of shoes

Debby in Gulf, Expected to Become a Hurricane

A tropical storm warning was issued Sunday for Alabama to the Florida Panhandle as Debby lashed parts of the Gulf Coast with wind and rain.

The National Hurricane Center in Miami said Sunday morning that Debby was about 170 miles southeast of the mouth of the Mississippi River. It said the storm warning has now been issued from the Mississippi-Alabama border eastward to the Florida Panhandle's Ochlockonee River.

Debby's top sustained winds had increased to about 60 mph.  It is expected to become a Category 1 hurricane at some point.

People from Texas to Florida should remain alert to Debby's movement.

Forecasters said Debby could be near hurricane strength by Monday night. Meanwhile, up to six inches of rain were possible along the coast, with isolated amounts possibly reaching 10 inches.

Roddick Wins Title For 12 Years in a Row at Eastbourne

Andy Roddick made his final preparation for Wimbledon a successful one, capturing the title at the Eastbourne tune-up on Saturday with a straight-set win over Italy's Andreas Seppi.

To say 2012 has been a struggle for Roddick is an understatement,  his best previous results were quarterfinal appearances in San Jose and Delray Beach. The American was eliminated in the first round of the French Open and also lost his first match last week at the Queen's Club before taking a wild card entry into this Eastbourne event to get ready for Wimbledon, which starts next week.

A three-time runner-up at the All England Club, Roddick earned his 31st career title and first since last year in Memphis with a 6-3, 6-2 triumph over Seppi on Saturday. It also gave Roddick at least one title in 12 straight years to match Roger Federer's active streak. He also became the first American to reach the winner's circle in 2012.

"I wanted to keep alive winning one tournament a year for 12 years," said Roddick. "I know three or four people have done that. I need to remind myself of those numbers just to [remember] this is a what did you do last week type sport. So looking back on that, maybe I need to look at those a little bit more and realize that I've done this for a long time pretty well."

Low Pressure Area Could Become Tropical Storm Debby

From the National Hurricane Center:

FOR THE NORTH ATLANTIC...CARIBBEAN SEA AND THE GULF OF MEXICO...

1. THE CENTER OF CIRCULATION OF THE BROAD AREA OF LOW PRESSURE OVER THE
GULF OF MEXICO APPEARS TO BE BECOMING BETTER DEFINED ABOUT 275
MILES SOUTH-SOUTHEAST OF THE MOUTH OF THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER. IN
ADDITION...SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS HAVE BEEN INCREASING OVER THE
EASTERN GULF OF MEXICO...AND A NOAA BUOY LOCATED ABOUT 130 MILES
EAST-NORTHEAST OF THE CENTER HAS PRODUCED TROPICAL-STORM-FORCE
WINDS WITHIN THE PAST COUPLE OF HOURS. A TROPICAL DEPRESSION...OR
MORE LIKELY A TROPICAL STORM...COULD FORM LATER TODAY OR TONIGHT IF
THE DEVELOPMENT TREND CONTINUES. THIS SYSTEM HAS A HIGH CHANCE...
90 PERCENT...OF BECOMING A TROPICAL CYCLONE AS IT MOVES SLOWLY
NORTHWARD DURING THE NEXT 48 HOURS.

TROPICAL STORM WATCHES OR WARNINGS COULD BE REQUIRED FOR A PORTION
OF THE NORTHERN GULF COAST OVER THE WEEKEND...AND INTERESTS IN THIS
AREA SHOULD CONTINUE TO MONITOR THE PROGRESS OF THIS LOW. HEAVY
RAINS AND LOCALIZED FLOODING ARE POSSIBLE ACROSS THE YUCATAN
PENINSULA...WESTERN CUBA...AND MUCH OF FLORIDA OVER THE NEXT DAY OR
SO. AN AIR FORCE RESERVE RECONNAISSANCE AIRCRAFT IS SCHEDULED TO
INVESTIGATE THE SYSTEM THIS AFTERNOON.

ELSEWHERE...TROPICAL CYCLONE FORMATION IS NOT EXPECTED DURING THE
NEXT 48 HOURS.

European Tour Caddy DQ'ed After Trying to Hide Club in Bushes

European PGA Tour player Ose Manuel Lara was kicked out of the BMW International Open – after playing partner Damien McGrane questioned the antics of the Spanish player’s caddie.

In Thursday’s opening round in Cologne, caddy Mathias Vinson was caught trying to hide an illegal 15th club in bushes.

An investigation followed and yesterday the European Tour confirmed Lara had been disqualified while his Argentine caddie had been banned indefinitely.

The incident took place on the second tee of the Gut Lacenhof course when Irishman McGrane, last to tee off at the hole, thought it strange when Vinson, with Lara’s bag on his shoulder, ducked into thick bushes.

While Lara and the third member of the group, Sweden’s Peter Hedblom, strode off down the fairway, McGrane began to quiz Vinson, not believing the visit to the bushes was a ‘call of nature’.

He said: “I said to Jose Manuel’s caddy ‘What the hell are you doing?’ Straight away he knew he had done something silly.

Lara was in shock when McGrane brought the matter to his attention, before the Spaniard sought out chief referee, John Paramor.

McGrane believed Lara would be hit with a four-stroke penalty but it wasn’t until Thursday night he learned of his disqualification.

He added: “I said to Jose Manuel if he had a great week and won the tournament there would be this big black X opposite his name and I said to Jose you can’t have that."
