College Basketball Play of the Day for 3/11/12

North Carolina in the ACC Tournament

Basketball fans don't get the Carolina/Duke matchup they all wanted in the ACC Championship game, but Florida St. could be even a tougher opponent for the Tar Heels.

North Carolina smoked Duke a week ago, so a game with the Seminoles is intriguing.

The line has UNC favored by 7, but look for Florida State to stay close for at least a half.

UNC is  7-2 ATS in their last 9 games overall and they should be able to pull away in the second half to cover the seven point spread.

Take UNC, give the 7 as both these teams move on to the big tournament later in the week.

Hawaii Says "Rain, Rain, Go Away"

After days of torrential rain and flooding, the governor of Hawaii has declared a disaster on the islands of Kauai and Oahu, according to reports from paradise.

Since Saturday, areas of Kauai have been inundated with more than 35 inches of rain. In Wainiha, on the North Shore, the National Weather Service said 12.74 inches fell in a one day period.

Parts of Oahu have seen 15 inches of rain, and Maui was also soaked. The thunderstorms have also brought waterspouts, hail and deadly high surf. Snow was possible today on Hawaii island summits, the Honolulu Star-Advertiser said.

A 30-minute hail storm Friday over windward Oahu was "unprecedented," for Hawaii, said Tom Birchard, senior meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Honolulu. Not only is it highly unusual for hail to fall over Hawaii, but some stones that measured as large as three inches are likely record-breaking, he said.

Small stones were reported to have fallen on other islands over the course of about a week of heavy rains that closed schools, caused sewage spills, flooded homes and dampened vacations. There were landslides, power outages and roads blocked by trees, boulders and mud.

The islands are expected to get a break from the rain on Saturday.

College Basketball Play of the Day for 3/10/12

Should be a great Big XII Championship game today.

Baylor and Missouri

Missouri is expected to be here, but Baylor upset Kansas on Friday to reach this point.

Missouri is a top-5 team and is really clicking on all cylinders.  Baylor has been great this season, but have had moments where they kind of went away.

Missouri swept the season series, but Perry Jones III has been so good for Baylor, I see him having another great game.

The game is currently off the board, but I expect the odds to be Missouri favored by 5 or 5.5.

Take Baylor and the points today as they may pull off another upset.

Dale Jr. Adds Wrecked Montoya Car to Collection

Juan Pablo Montoya’s wrecked car is Dale Jr.'s gain.

The red Target-sponsored Chevy sits in the woods on Earnhardt’s 200-acre property in Mooresville, N.C., a gift from former Hendrick Motorsports engineer Chris Heroy, who worked on Earnhardt’s crew last year and is now Montoya’s crew chief at EGR.

“(Heroy) is a buddy of mine and he gave it to me,” Earnhardt said. “I’ve got 50 or 60 cars out there. I didn’t buy any of them.”

The Montoya car has became one of the most famous cars on Earnhardt’s property.

The car is the Earnhardt Ganassi Racing car that Juan Pablo Montoya crashed into a jet dryer during the Daytona 500 Feb. 27 at Daytona International Speedway.

Earnhardt Jr. says he also would like to add the jet dryer to his collection as well, but it remains property of Michigan International Speedway where it was on loan from.
