The Muppets Hit Theaters This Thanksgiving

It's a typical Muppet movie plot.

When Walter, the world's biggest Muppet fan, and friends Gary (Jason Segel) and Mary (Amy Adams) discover the nefarious plan of oilman Tex Richman (Chris Cooper) to raze the Muppet Theater, they help Kermit reunite the Muppets to stage The Greatest Muppet Telethon Ever and raise the $10 million needed to save the theater.

This is the seventh Muppet movie and the first since "Muppets From Space" in 1999.  I expect the box office receipts to be huge all the way through the end of the year.

Kindle Free Pick of the Week: Pixel Perfect Holiday Puzzles

One the eve of the Kindle Fire getting released, here's another puzzle game for your Kindle with a holiday theme.

Pixel Perfect Holiday Puzzles is a logic puzzle game that challenges you to make a picture from numerical clues.

This sequel to the popular Pixel Perfect Puzzles gives you 50 new holiday and winter themed pictures to reveal. Each clue tells you where to draw a run of consecutive black squares. The clues in a row or column appear in the same order as the runs in the puzzle grid, with at least one empty square between each run. Start with the largest clues first, and then cross out squares that you know should be empty. This will allow you to narrow down the possibilities and logically determine the remaining squares.

The challenges can be tough, but there are 3 hints available on each puzzle to help you out if you get stuck. The game can even find and erase errors at any time. Time, hints used, and errors are tracked for each puzzle. Can you discover every picture?

If you like using logic to solve puzzles, you will love Pixel Perfect Holiday Puzzles!

Dancing With the Stars: Halloween Treats on the Dance Floor

We are really getting down to the nitty gritty now as the calendar is ready to turn to November.  That can only mean one thing for DWTS, it's time to celebrate Halloween.

We'll see what costumes the stars and pros don this week.  This week also marks the return of the team dance.  With six couples remaining, there will be two teams competing for points.

Pay special attention to Hope and Maks tonight as everyone will be watching to see how they react to the comments they received last week.  Maks was upset and I expect he will go all out tonight.

The studio is decked out like a haunted house and we are ready to get going.

Leading off tonight will be David Arquette and Kym Johnson.  They look to rebound from their quickstep last week with a cha cha.  David predicted this routine would be fun.  Good to hear some Steve Miller Band and good to see a lively dance.  Some good moves and a couple of surprises gives David a 24.  A good start to Halloween.

A little Ghostbusting next with J.R. and Karina.  They work hard on their tango throughout the week.  J.R. is the Ghostbuster and Karina is of course, the ghost.  Another solid performance by J.R.  He had a little timing issue, but it was still a fun routine.  J.R. gets a 25 out of 30.

Nancy Grace is next with Tristian.  They get a jive this week to "The Devil Went Down to Georgia."  It started out bad for Nancy as she missed the first few moves.  It didn't get much better in my opinion as she was out of sync.  She gets a 21.

Rob Kardashian and Cheryl are up next with a routine to "The Adams Family."  Cheryl is working Rob hard and his body is getting sore.  They are hoping for 10's this week.  Rob was a bit stiff at the beginning, but they were in sync and played their characters well.  A good job by Rob, he gets a 25.

On to Ricki Lake and Derek.  Ricki is battling some nagging injuries at this stage of the competition.  Very showy and very dramatic.  A nice paso that the crowd loved.  The judges also liked it and Ricki gets a 27.

Everybody is waiting for Hope and Maks dance.  "Warren Zevon's "Warewolves of London" is the song and the samba is the dance.  Maks had an injured toe during rehearsals so Teddy from the troupe came in to help out.  It wasn't great, but it wasn't awful either.  The judges liked it better than I did and she gets a 24.

On to the the team dances.  It's team Tango up first.  This will be J.R., David and Nancy.  A well choreographed tango.  Wow, it was a long dance with each team getting to show some skills.  Lots of moves and it was pretty clean.  Len thought it could've been better and they get a 23 as a group.

Team Paso is up next. This team is made up of Ricki, Rob and Hope.  A lot of tension during the practice for this group dance.  Derek and Maks took the lead in getting this team ready.  It was dark and a little scary.  Good solo dances and a strong finish by Derek and Ricki. The judges loved it and they get a 26.

Nancy Grace may be in trouble tomorrow.

I hate to say it, but Justin Bieber tomorrow night.

Halloween Pet Safety Tips

Halloween is a time for everyone to have fun, feel like a kid, and eat a little too much candy. If your dogs are like mine, they will eat anything, and chocolate candy is no exception. The difference is, chocolate is poisonous to dogs, and if they eat enough of it, it can kill them. Methylxanthines—the chemicals in chocolate that are dangerous—are similar to caffeine and appear in higher concentrations the darker the chocolate. Just 2-3 ounces of baker's chocolate can make a 50 pound dog very ill.

What happens when dogs eat chocolate? The chemical toxicity results in vomiting, diarrhea, hyperactivity, inflammation of the pancreas, an abnormal heart rhythm, seizures, and sometimes, even death. In smaller dogs, even the wrappers from candy can result in a secondary obstruction in the stomach or intestines. Remember, it's the dose that makes the poison. Dogs that ingest a few M&Ms or 1-2 bites of a chocolate chip cookie are unlikely to develop chocolate poisoning, but smaller dogs are more sensitive than larger ones.

Common sense tells you to keep your Halloween candy out of the reach of pets, but sometimes accidents happen. The Pet Poison Helpline reported that in 2010, the number of calls of dogs having ingested chocolate during the week of Halloween increased 209% over a typical week. Signs of mild chocolate poisoning can include vomiting and diarrhea. Larger ingestions can cause severe agitation, tachycardia (elevated heart rate), abnormal heart rhythms, tremors, seizures and collapse.

Raisins, sometimes appearing in Halloween candy or just handed out instead of candy, are also extremely poisonous to dogs and can cause kidney failure. If your dog has eaten any amount of raisins, grapes, or currants, you should treat it as a potentially toxic situation and immediately call your veterinarian or the Pet Poison Helpline. The poison in raisins is more concentrated than in grapes, so no amount of raisins is too small for you to make a phone call.

In addition, if your dog gets into your candy stash and gobbles it down, consult your veterinarian even if it wasn't chocolate. Large amounts of high sugar, high fat candy is bad for your dog's system and can result in pancreatitis. Signs include decreased appetite, vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, abdominal pain, and potentially kidney failure. Be sure to consult your veterinarian immediately if any of these signs occur. The Pet Poison Helpline is available at 1.800.213.6680 or www.petpoisonhelpline.com.
