Kindle Pick of the Week: The Rugged Entrepreneur: What Every Disruptive Business Leader Should Know
I'll be talking with the author tomorrow, but this book is really worth a read.
Have you ever dreamed about owning your own business? Maybe becoming a market disruptor? Would you know where to start? Do you have a coach, a mentor, or a teacher who can show you how? Well, now you do.
If we are lucky, we have been taught to dream since the time we were very young. If we are luckier still, we have also been taught to establish a sturdy foundation for those dreams to stand upon. When building the business you’ve always dreamed of, you must first establish a rock-solid foundation, something I’ve learned from many years of experience as a Rugged Entrepreneur.
What is a “Rugged Entrepreneur”? It’s what I call a special breed of entrepreneur. Ruggeds make the leap toward success in a way that separates them from the millions who fall short because they invest the time and effort to develop and hone the specific set of powerful skills you’ll discover in these pages.
Amazon Pick of the Week: Elvis: Destined to Die Young
Elvis Presley would've been celebrating his 86th birthday on January 8, had he been granted a longer life. Could anyone or anything have saved the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll, or was Elvis Presley Destined to Die Young? In Sally Hoedel’s captivating, expertly researched book into the health struggles of Elvis, she reveals compelling evidence of a genetic legacy of chronic medical conditions that not even the King himself could overcome.

Historian and author Sally Hoedel, however, doesn’t see Elvis as a cautionary tale of self-destruction. Instead, she sees a man who struggled, every day, to survive.
In her compelling, thought-provoking new release, Elvis: Destined to Die Young, Hoedel offers factual and scientific data, plus never-before-published information she gained by interviewing people who personally knew Elvis, to dive deep into his struggles with multiple chronic health conditions
Hoedel examines Elvis Presley — devoted son, husband, father and friend — while plowing through the negative hype and legendary myths surrounding the man. Elvis’ downward spiral of health struggles is intertwined with his life story, and for the first time, it is revealed that he suffered from disease in nine of eleven bodily systems. Five of those disease processes, Hoedel finds, were present from birth. She expertly puts all of this into historical context, pointing out differences in medical treatments and protocols for the time.
Hoedel’s extensive research provides answers to lingering questions about his death and dispels the long-held theory that abuse of prescription drugs is what killed Elvis. Readers may be surprised to learn that, based on Elvis Presley’s family history and the genes he was dealt, nothing could have saved the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll. The result is a totally fresh, unique, humanizing approach to Elvis.
“I wrote this book because I genuinely believe this is a story that Elvis would want known,” Hoedel says. “He needed to be a strong American male while he was alive, and he hid his pain and his body’s weaknesses. Yet, he always knew he was just like everyone else: human. I believe he would be OK with everyone now understanding just how human he was. He struggled but he tried. My only hope for this labor of love is that it makes someone stop and think about Elvis just a little bit differently. He deserves it.”
Sally A. Hoedel, a lifelong Elvis fan and historian, has a journalism degree from Michigan State University and is co-owner of Character Development and Leadership, a curriculum business. She lives in Northern Michigan with her husband and their four daughters.

Amazon Pick of the Week: America's Presidents Ranked from Best to Worst
Ranking our Presidents
In 2020, as we set our sights on another election, this book takes a look at all of the presidents of the United States—ranked from best to worst (the results may surprise you)—and their legacies, achievements and what we learned from their leadership.
The book spans from 1789 when George Washington (spoiler alert: he's in the "Best Presidents" category) took the first-ever oath of office. Forty-four different men have sworn to “faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States” and what makes a great leader has been vision, conviction, and setting the nation on the right course. The Revolutionary War showed us we needed commanders who were going to fight for our freedom. The Civil War showed we needed leaders who were going to unite this nation. We looked to the President during hard times like the Great Depression, who were going to pick us up, dust us off and, with a steady hand, guide us to more promising times, which Franklin Delano Roosevelt did over his unprecedented four terms.
Over the next many, many decades, and many wars and battles later, the President of the United States has shown they are the most powerful person on this planet. But they are also vulnerable. They’ve been targets of assassination attempts, and some, sadly, have been successful. Their transgressions have lead to scandals and impeachments. Presidents have been accused of abusing power and the advent of social media has ushered in a new form of communicating to constituents and young voters.
In an election year when interest in Presidents is strong, join Centennial Books as we look to the nation's shared history to see what we can learn for today and the future.

Kindle Pick of the Week: Bathing Kitty and Other Mischievious Poems
From feeding dog food to a little brother, to destroying each other’s toys, to observing nose-pickers in church, nothing is off-limits in L. W. Lewis’s collection of amusing poetry, Bathing Kitty. Told from the unfiltered perspective of a child, the short, whimsical observations are meant to draw young readers in with entertaining, humorous verses that can help young minds think beyond the nuts and bolts of standard prose. Bathing Kitty blends clever wordplay with easy-to-remember rhymes to help build reading confidence and create verses that are fun to say aloud — again and again!
Bathing Kitty covers the spectrum of childhood’s mischievous mayhem, with poems about applying lipstick to the cat, getting bubbles in your butt and eating insects. Intended for audiences from grades 4 through 6, the verses take a serious turn at the end, with The Not-Too-Funny Section, which features three touching tributes to the author’s military legacy and the contributions of our armed forces.
Along the way, Lewis manages to sneak in subtle lessons about the importance of having high ideals and good morals — undercurrents that should have an impact yet go unnoticed by all but the most perceptive of children.
An ideal gift for holidays and birthdays, Bathing Kitty can help children cultivate a penchant for poetry and build confidence in their reading skills, and can teach all of us the value of viewing the lighter side of life with an ounce of whimsy and a pound of humor.
Winner of the Bronze Award for Poetry from the Moonbeam Children’s Book Awards, Bathing Kitty is the fifth collection of poems from L. W. Lewis. His other books include The Tickle Tree and Why Do Flies Eat Doggie Poop? Lewis was born in Cleveland, Ohio. He is a retired U.S. Air Force pilot and navigator. He was assigned to B-52's during the Vietnam War and later flew fighters with the Flying Tigers. He was an Air Force instructor pilot. While assigned as an adviser to the U.S. Army, he attended Army jump school and has made 268 military parachute jumps. He earned a B.S. degree from the University of Miami in Florida and a master’s degree from Oklahoma City University. His introduction to poetry began in the sixth grade and has been a part of his life ever since.
Lewis provides fun-filled, interactive poetry readings in schools (at no charge), where he uses his contagious enthusiasm to ignite the interests of children in this type of literature.
