Shooting Outside East Lake Golf Club at PGA Tour Championship

In a story totally unrelated to the great golf that took place this week at East Lake Golf Club a unfortunate incident took place on Sunday.

An officer approached a vehicle at the intersection of Memorial and Green after the vehicle tried to pull into a parking lot.  When the officer put his hand inside the window the driver took off dragging the officer.  While accelerating, another officer fired and hit the driver of the vehicle.

Very unfortunate, and this story is still developing.  Info slow in coming out on this story.  I wonder if they want the news and Sports channels to cover the golf without mentioning this tonight.

Craig Brewer About to Have a Hit With 'Footloose'

I know what you are thinking, a Footloose remake can't be good.

Well, think again, director Craig Brewer not only lived up to the high standards set by the 1984 original, he's surpassed it.

I was able to see a premiere tonight of the film which is due out in theatres Oct 14.  Even though there is a talented cast featuring Julianne Hough, Andie McDowell, Dennis Quaid and newcomer Kenny Wormald, the real stars of the movie are the story and of course, the dancing.

I'll post a review and a recap of the evening here in Atlanta that featured a Q&A period with Brewer, Hough and Wormald inside the theatre.

Interesting stuff and the stars and Brewer couldn't have been nicer or more accessible.

Accidental Dong Spotted on Ken Cook's Weather Forecast Fox5 Atlanta

I'm going to take a break from all the Jack Hiscock jokes to bring you the accidental dong track of Hurricane Irene spotted on ken Cook's forecast on Fox5 Atlanta.

Ken is one of the nicest and best weather forecasters in the business.

Now the pics.

Looks like the hurricane may penetrate New York City and possibly wipe out Snooki and the Jersey Shore.

iPad Free App of the Week: 511

If you live and drive around Metro Atlanta you need the recently updated 511 app for your iPad and/or iPhone.

This app was helpful just for the traffic news it provided, now there's more. This app can save you money while you are on the go.

And best of all the app is free! "That's the whole idea is to give users opportunities to tap into special offers all over the state at no cost to you just to generate business in this economy," Amy Woodward Parrish of 511 Live said.

Another benefit is that you don't have to buy into it over the Internet like other deal websites. You simply show the coupon on your phone at the place of business.

It's easy to use, once the app is up on your phone or tablet, you can change the range of how far out you want it to go, and it will tell you all the deals that it has to offer within that range. Restaurants, dry cleaners, car washes, they are all on here.

Other features:

GPS locations are now refreshed and results are more accurate.

Searching by Location provides more refined data based on the city and state you enter.
Additional locations have now been included in the Categories and Search screens.
Better validations, alert messages and activity indicators have been implemented

The app is on iTunes here: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/511/id388293125?mt=8

Fantasy Golf: Buy, Sell, or Hold for the PGA Championship

The final major of 2011 will be getting underway this week and that means it is also an important week for fantasy golf players.

Hopefully you have some starts left for some of the players you think will fare well on the tough track at the Atlanta Athletic Club.

The weather will be hot and sticky and that may be an advantage to many of the golfers that have been playing events in th U.S. where it has been extremely hot all summer.

David Toms won here the last time the PGA Championship was at the Atlanta Athletic Club.  He was accurate and didn't make mistakes down the stretch as he took the title.

Here's a quick buy, sell, or hold.

Buy:

Dustin Johnson (A) - He he poised to win a major?

Nick Watney (A) - He's lurking in the rough, and if he starts well, he's a good closer.

Steve Stricker (B) - A must play.  He'll be around on the weekend.

Charl Schwartzel (B) - Didn't have a good Bridgestone, but he's The Masters champ.

Y.E. Yang (B) - I think this could be a good course for Yang.

Rory McIlroy (C) - You have to take him as a C pick.

Gary Woodland (C) - He should have a good week.

Zach Johnson (C) - Plays well in Georgia, but is that enough for him this week?

Sell:

Jonathan Byrd (A)

Angel Cabrera (B) - Hasn't made a cut since early June.

Anthony Kim (C) - He's good one week, bad the next.  Which Anthony Kim will show up in Atlanta?

Hold:

David Toms (B) - Can the 2001 champ do it again at the Atlanta Athletic Club.
