Kindle Free Pick of the Week: Lana'i of the Tiger

Having just returned from Lana'i, I was interested in this read. Especially for free.

In mid-November, Maui wedding planner Pali Moon is hustled into witness protection after sticking her nose in a hush-hush federal sting operation aimed at taking down a vicious drug lord. She’s sent to the private island of Lana’i, Hawaii, to hang out while the feds finish up. After a month she’s bored, homesick and WITSEC’s worst nightmare until she lands a job tending a cozy B & B in Lana’i City. Movie mogul Tyler Benson checks in and he decides on a whim to marry his long-time girlfriend on Lana’i—far from the stalking paparazzi. But before long, the bushes are rustling with reporters and photogs hoping to get a scoop on the wedding or a candid photo of the reclusive celeb. Then a body is found in Tyler’s fiancée’s suite and the tabloids shout, amen! Who needs a ho-hum wedding when you can have a star-studded murder?

“Living on the dole isn’t all it’s cracked up to be, and neither is living on the lam.”

Kindle Free Pick of the Week - The Eighties: A Bitchen Time To Be a Teenager!

For those of us that survived the 80's.

The decade of the 1980s has been called the Decade of Decadence. Decadence is defined as "the act or process of falling into an inferior condition or state; deterioration; decay" or my favorite, "unrestrained or excessive self-indulgence." For a decade that brought us Cabbage Patch Kids, Garbage Pail Kids, leg-warmers and New Wave, was it really self-indulgence?! For one kid growing up in the Central Valley of California, it was a time of self-discovery . . . a transformation from a kid, to a teenager, to a young adult . . . his growing up years. At times utterly hilarious, at times poignant and powerful, Tom relives his teenage years in this true-to-the-last-word memoir. Where were you when John Lennon died? When the Space Shuttle blew up? When Lawrence Taylor ended Joe Theisman's career on live TV? When the Loma Prieta earthquake rocked Game 3 of the 1989 World Series? Tom will tell you where he was and what it meant to him. You'll also hear about first kisses, first loves, a joke about your Uranus, avoiding fistfights, the joys of minimum-wage jobs, college roommates, and WHOLE LOT MORE. If you're one of the 70 million Americans who can claim at least one teen year in the decade, you can relate to the era . . . if your kids can't understand your fondness for your Breakfast Club and Princess Bride DVDs, this book may teach them a thing or two about YOUR growing up years. Go ahead, say the word "bitchen" outloud. Yeah, it was a bitchen time, the Eighties . . . (and, yeah, the word can be spelled "bitchen" or "bitchin'" - the author prefers the former . . . )

Kindle Free Pick of the Week - Tornadoes on the Mother Road

Part comedy adventure, part travel book and part diary, Tornadoes on the Mother Road is the true story of a young British couple's adventure around Western USA.

Holly and Andy get the opportunity of a lifetime when they are given free tickets to fly anywhere in the world. A longed-for road trip in America, encompassing several US states and Route 66, the Mother Road herself, ensues. However, Holly and Andy aren't quite as savvy as they like to think, and they get into a lot of trouble along the way. Cue overly-friendly Mormons in Utah, Nazi-dinosaurs in Colorado, ghost cowboys in Arizona, hostile Germans in New Mexico, accidental drug deals in Las Vegas and freakish weather all over the place. The journey is interspersed with a desperate search for a decent cup of tea and a mission to convince everyone they really are English and definitely not Australian.

This true story is interlaced with American history, culture, food and law, where you can find the answer to the questions you have always had about America; what exactly happened at Roswell? What’s jaywalking? What’s Cinco de Mayo? And why does American chocolate taste so very, very bad?
